A blast from the past

Ok, I have got to get back to quilting. This detour I have taken with the cross stitch has got to be put on the back burner. I decided to start working on an old cross stitch UFO. I started this in the late 80's! Since it is a Xmas stocking, I have missed out on a lot of goodies from Santa Claus since the stocking was not finished and hung! Here is where I am starting and where I am after an hour's work.
My setup for stitching was a plastic easel with a magnetic board that I have had for decades so I can use the blue plastic guide to mark my place. I mark off the chart what I have stitched with an highlighter so I can see what I have gotten done.
I also went thru a bin of cross stitch pieces thinking I might unframe the old pieces that are awful and use the frames for new pieces. After looking at the frames, I don't really like them so that plan is out the window. When I started out cross stitching I would find a iron on transfer, iron it on muslin, and then stitch it. Some of the fabric is much yellower than what they look like in these pictures. I am not sure of the dates, but these have to be from the mid to late 70's or early 80's. Have a good chuckle; those squirrels are scary looking! LOL!!

Ok, you are right, those squirrels are scary, lol. Perhaps you could paint the frames?? I really like the last one...especially your last name in cursive, different for cross stitch and adds to it's value in my humble opinion....maybe you could keep that one framed :)

It's nice to have something fun to take with you to work. Happy stitching.

I used to do a lot of the iron on designs for embroidery too. They were fun but the counted cross stitch was even more fun. And, yes, those squirrels are scary!

It's fun to go back and see old projects. I have to keep photos of mine because I'm such a purger. The photo of your highlighted pattern almost gave me PTSD. That's what I used to make progress on that horrid cat cross stitch that I finally finished about 10 years ago.😆
