Air fryer - the first two items

I got home from work later than usual so I didn't have time for much. I had stopped at the grocery store to pick up a loaf of bread so I could try out the air fryer. First I had to wipe out the unit per the instructions in case there was any manufacturing dust and wash the mesh racks.

I cut a slice of bread and set the air fryer for 3 minutes on 370 degrees. This was just a guess! LOL!!
I then added some cheese and set it for another 3 minutes at 370. The bread on the bottom and sides was nice and crispy like toast, but there was no color. The mouth feel was fine. Maybe if I had buttered the bread just a little it would have browned up a bit. I will have to try that, but otherwise it was a nice snack.

Then this morning I threw in some small potatoes. This is 3 pounds of organic Yukon gold potatoes. I poked each one with a knife so they didn't explode, very lightly oiled and salted them, then set the timer for 20 minutes at 375. I did go and flip them over about 3/4 the way thru.

I had sorted the potatoes by size and the littlest ones were done, but the others needed another 5 minutes. The time isn't much shorter than in a traditional oven, but I don't have to wait for preheating and run to the oven when the timer goes off. The air fryer cycles down and shuts itself off when the timer goes off. Here are what the potatoes looked like.

I could have cut them in smaller pieces, cooked them longer so they would get a bit more brown, and added more seasoning. I can see there would be a lot of options. I never cook baked potatoes. Heating up the oven to cook one potato is ridiculous, but with the air fryer why not! I think this unit works a lot like some of the convection countertop ovens I have seen, but just a bit smaller in the footprint.

This does seem like a good appliance for single or empty nest homes.

Thanks for sharing! Staying tuned in...lol. I looked at one at Walmart yesterday. Was short on time....just had to take a peek. You know what happens when one starts window shopping! Have a good evening.

Interesting. I love convection cooking. I don't know anyone personally that has an air fryer, though my daughter mentioned wanting one.
