Let the sewing begin!

I got started last evening on sewing the strip sets together to make 9 patch blocks. This is going to take a while! LOL!!

I am taking a vacation day tomorrow; my nephew's band has a show. Have a great weekend and we will catch up on Monday.

All cut!

Now I am ready to sew! I even got the cut off pieces from the gray flannel backing for that last flannel quilt cut and added to these strips.

When I got home from work I took a walk around the yard and this beautiful butterfly posed for a picture while a hummingbird buzzed by me like a fighter jet. I love the touch of blue on it's wings.

Flannel-palooza continues!

I got the three pieces of solids cut then laid out all my darker plaids to match them up with the solids.

These solids were in the fabric storage room waiting to find a matching plaid. I will be cutting these tonight and then I can start sewing the sets of strips into 9 patch blocks. Looking at all this, I now have something to work with!

I need 143 blocks for a queen sized quilt. The left over blocks will go into a pile for any future flannel quilt I need to make. Having the blocks made will make it easy to whip up a quilt in a hurry.

Flannel-palooza!

I washed flannel this weekend. I can't remember if I did two or three loads, but here it is piled on my big table ready to press and cut into strips.

I started on the pastel plaids and solids. I noticed I didn't have any coral or yellow solid fabric. I am going to dye some of the white flannel I have to fill out this color pallet.

Next I cut the reds and the other darker more masculine plaids.

I still have three solid pieces to cut. It took me 5 - 6 hours to get this nearly done.

Thursday the band had a show in Kent, Ohio. Here is the merch booth all set up

I remembered to take a picture of the cloth I made to display the drum heads and the drum head holder in action that I made a few weekends ago.

We had a good crowd. I took this before the band had started and the area was filled by the time the band started playing.

The flowers were so pretty that ran along one side of the plaza.

I had company Friday and Saturday. For dinner Friday I made a pizza from scratch.

I got the other amp cover my brother needed made.

The covers and drum mask got shipped on Saturday. I got a bit more stitched on the deer cover. Here is where I was last time I posted and where I am now.

15th finish for 2021

With stitching at lunchtime yesterday, I managed to get the odds and ends quilt done. Last night I sewed on the patches. I am skipping the ribbons right now. The quilt turned out 70" x 94" and I quilted it with off white thread. I used some African fabric my brother had bought for me in NYC years ago. I liked the selvages so I centered them on the back.

I also worked on that to do list. I got the bag made for the used autographed drum heads that we sell at the merch booth. This bag is bigger than the ones I make to give away. Thanks Cherie for the fabric! This bag will replace the tall kitchen trash bag my SIL has been using.

Then I got the tent cover fixed. Here is a picture of the problem and the fix. This was actually an easy job and while I was at it I reinforced the other three corners.

I found some fabric for the drum head display mat.

So here is what my to do list looks like now - making progress!

I am taking vacation Thursday and Friday. The band has a show and I won't get to bed until late Thursday night. We will catch up Monday!

Hand stitching binding progress

I am making good progress on hand stitching the binding on the odds and ends quilt. I have a short and long side done and 3/4 of the other short side done. I brought it to work today to stitch on it at lunchtime. It is hard to tell in the picture, but the binding fabric is a dark blue.

A co-worker gave me a little dry erase board to use at the merch booth. When the music is so loud I can communicate with customers by writing information or use it to write down the prices when someone buys a lot of stuff so I can add up what they owe. I thought that when I am not using it at the booth I could write my short term to do list on it. Gosh, I have some stuff to do in the next couple of days!

Almost finishes

It was another busy weekend. I finished quilting the odds and ends quilt and got the binding sewn on. Over the next couple of evenings I will work on handstitching the binding.

The next almost finish is the Irish Blessing. Now I just need to get it framed.

Saturday the band had a show in Mentor at the marina. After we got the merch booth set up

there was plenty of time to take a walk. I wanted to see the lake - Lake Erie. There were several inlets that were lined with docks - one right after another. People had personalized their spaces with roofs, fire pits, landscaping, etc.

It didn't look like any of these were where you would stay overnight. There didn't appear to be running water as there were port-a-johns lining the road. I walked 3/4 of a mile and ended up with a view of the breakwall so I never did see the lake, but the area was beautiful.

The show went well. Not a huge crowd and merch sales were decent.

A cousin whom my brother and I haven't seen in 20 years came to the show. He is a physical therapist and plays in a blues band. Michael got him up on stage and they played a song together.

I spent some time trimming and watering last night. We hadn't gotten any rain for about a week. About 45 minutes after I was done, it rained! There was none in the forecast. Oh well, the rain took care of the plants that I didn't have time to water.
