Flannel, painting, and mudding

I was happy to get my flannel I ordered from Hancock's. This will be a quilt for a friend.

The colors go good with the Indian's fabric I got from JoAnns'.

I spent all weekend working in the laundry/utility room so no, I didn't not get the t-shirt quilt quilted. I did start on this side of the room and took down these shelves and brackets.

I didn't even know what was in the one box! Now I know you want to see what was on the shelf and in those boxes! LOL! The unknown box had old jars and a electric knife. I trashed the knife and put the box of jars in the garage.

Another box had clothes. Some went in a pile for the Goodwill, the old pair of jeans when in the fabric storage room for a future jeans quilt, and that left me with two sweatshirts. One less box going back on this shelf!

The plastic bin had my son's and my twikondo belts and my pads. The belts are going; my son did not want his.

In there also was my Cat's Meow Hershey pieces - these will go upstairs in my bookcases

a French fry cutter that my brother who lives in Texas found at a flea market. He bought it for me because at the time I worked for Ekco. Going upstairs in the bookcases

and I found a rubber stamp I thought I had lost. I used it to print my own fabric for a quilt that is still a UFO. It is still a UFO because I needed to make more fabric but I couldn't find the stamp! LOL!!!

There were three books and some framed needlework. The books were my son's when he was little and the quilting book was my Mother's. They are going in the bookcases.

I moved the needlework pieces to the fabric storage room where all the other framed pieces are right now. I guess I can't make a decision about these yet so moving them is a delay tactic. The lone star piece was given to me by someone I use to work with.

So I took down the shelving unit, gave it two coats of paint, and the stanchions and handing rail are back up on the wall.

I got the second coat of paint on the opposite wall and was got the stanchions and hanging rail reinstalled.

Had to patch a hole in the one wall. I cut a piece of drywall and made the hole bigger to fit the patch piece. I also scraped out the crack a bit.

then a coat of mud - after I had to make a road trip to go buy some mud. The bucket of mud I had was very old and had to be pitched. Here is my patch with the second coat of mud. I will sand it down and only add another layer if I have too.

The far wall which adjoins the bathroom needed some drywall put back on. Part of the wall was demoed when I remodeled the bathroom. I had to pull out all the nails left from the previous dry and unscrew the strap holding up that black pipe for the furnace exhaust. Before adding the drywall I needed to add blocking for the towel bar and a shelf I want to hang in the bathroom. I also added a stud so I would have something to screw the drywall to.

My neighbor was outside when I had come back from my supply trip and I had asked him if he would help me hang the drywall. So Dave came over and gave me a hand. He and his wife are such good neighbors! So here is the drywall hung with two coats of mud. It's ready to sand then paint!

The best part is I no longer have drywall in my kitchen/eating area! Besides the 5/8" drywall we used to fix the wall, I had a piece of 1/4" drywall that was left over and I had no use for so I cut it up and toss it so the drywall in this picture is now gone!

Looks so much better! It still needs a second coat and it is going to be a challenge to paint behind the sink!

I didn't look at the ceiling until yesterday and decided it needs a coat of paint too. Yikes! Is room ever going to be done? LOL!! I started edging until it got to be after 4; I was tired and I needed to go to my brother's house and put out the trash bin. Here you can see the difference and the challenge I will have painting around all the electrical conduit.

Why is this taking me weeks to do when on a home improvement show it would only take a half hour? LOL!!!

Weekend plans and going's on

I made banana cupcakes with a streusel topping last evening to take to work. I had some bananas that needed to be used up. The house smelled so good!

I saw two deer in the backyard last evening. The one has a big belly so I think she is pregnant.

Remember that cone in the street that I joked that the dip in the road was fixed because they set a cone there? Well they are fixing it and they have the road blocked off on one side for 3 or 4 blocks! I have no idea what they are doing, but there was a excavator digging where the dip was located. Here is a picture from this morning and the pink arrow points to where the cone was.

The guys on site are building up the sand at the pilings for where eventually the pilings will hold up a bridge deck. The height of this is much higher in person than what it looks like in this picture. They have also added concrete retaining wall as they add more sand.

Across the street the retaining wall is growing too along with the sand base. It is a busy place around here with sand and rock trucks coming and going all day long. We have two flaggers that have to stop the traffic for the trucks to back up into the site and for the loader to go across the street to take sand from one side to another.

Here is how close the trucks are to the job trailer. I was standing on the stair landing for the trailer when I took this picture. You can also see that they have the water truck on site and are watering down the sand to compact it. The last few days Mother Nature provided the water in the form of rain! LOL!!! In case you are wondering, the trucks and equipment on site do make the trailer shake. It is like getting a massage all day long! LOL!!

My plans for the weekend are to try and finish quilting the t-shirt quilt and make some progress in the laundry/utility room. Have a great weekend!

Almost done

I am now 93% done with the quilting! I finished up the lavender t-shirt

and I got the front side of the white basketball jersey done

I circled in pink what I have left to quilt

I need to work in the laundry/utility room again this weekend so I am not sure if I will be able to at least get the binding machine sewn on. I plan on hand stitching the binding on the back.

a bit of quilting

I had a busy evening again. Had to go to my brother's to meet my son and DIL to load a truck with furniture my brother is not taking with him when he moves. I was up early enough this morning to get the rest of this jersey quilted which gets me to 88% done with the quilting.

I got started on the next shirt too. There is a lot of detail stitching on such a small shirt! What I have done so far is quilt around the rings and leaves.

It had rained on and off most of the day yesterday so we were lucky that the sun had come out when we were moving the furniture. About 7:30 - 8 it started raining. The blue dot is where I am located. You can see that this was the radar at 8 p.m.

Busy evening

No sewing again last night. I had an appointment and on my way home stopped several places. I had to stop at JoAnn's to pick up my order. I don't shop at JoAnn's much anymore, but I have a gift card and I wanted some flannel to make a quilt for someone. They had the Team Shop fabric on sale, so I got two flannels that had the Indians on them and the Browns and Cavs cotton fabric will be for boxy pouches to give for Easter.

Then I made a quick stop at the grocery store located next door to JoAnn's to pick up a couple things I needed for a banana cake.

I also stopped to see the Geek squad to see if someone could figure out why my laptop would not power up. Turns out to be an easy fix thank goodness; the power cord went bad so I have a new one on order.

I finally got to the house at 7 and there was a package at the door. It was one of those mystery Amazon packages. I hadn't received one of those in awhile. What was in it? Some kind of filters.

Painting and cleaning - not quilting

I got nothing done on the quilt this weekend as I focused my efforts on the laundry/utility room. I want to put a new floor in this room. Since I am going to get a new hot water heater in a few weeks, I need to get the flooring done enough that all I have to do is finish what will go under the heater once the plumbers pull the old one out. So before I put in a new floor I need to finish painting the walls. I started the weekend by going to Menards and getting the solid vinyl laminate for the new floor in the laundry room. They were having an 11% rebate promotion. Here is the flooring now stacked in the garage.

I wanted the lightest color they had and this is what I ended up with. The color is called Sea Salt and I had to see a piece against the old floor.

I spent Saturday and Sunday working in the laundry/utility room cleaning up. This is what the room looked like.

I had to move all the stuff off the shelves so I could take the shelves down to paint. I spent most of Saturday organizing things, moving the containers out of the room, pitching some stuff, and hauling a lot of stuff to the garage.

I also had to rip out the rest of the baseboard, vacuum the floors then I steam cleaned them. I pulled out the washer and dryer and cleaned under them and behind them. I got the shelving wall patched and painted. It looks so much better!

The wall across from the shelving wall was accessible since I had cleaned out the room so I moved all the hanging items so I could paint the lower half of the wall. The arrow is where I had stopped painting when I installed those cupboards.

The lower wall is now painted from the corner to behind the dryer. I will take down the shelving unit to paint the upper part of this wall.

I started cleaning up about 4 and then headed over to my brother's to fill up the trash bin and set it out on the curb. I still have two more loads to get rid of. He had a closing date on the house and it feels strange that in a few weeks I will not have to take care of his house any more.

The city put up a sign now next to the cone I showed you last week. This is the backside, but is says "Uneven Pavement". No kidding! Duh!
