Great progress and a list for the weekend

I made some great progress on the Nocturne quilt. I have a bit more than half of the patches sewn together.

I noticed that a few crocus that were transplanted by the squirrels had come up. The deer have also missed eating these. It was nice to see them. I had brought them with me when I had moved and thought they were so pretty with their purple stripes.

My brother called me last evening, that is brother Bob, and asked if I would make a quilt for a baby boy not born yet named Oliver. I said I think I have one in my stash. It is for friends of one of the other techs he is touring with. I found this one, sent a picture, and it was approved.

I had made this one in 2014 as my submission for the American Made contest for QuiltCon. It was not accepted, but it will make a lovely baby quilt. Here you can see the detail for the free motion machine quilting I did on this piece.

I received one of the AC/DC t-shirts I won off of ebay yesterday. I need more, but everyone I get my hands on helps the cause!

Bob also sent me pictures and measurements for the cover I need to make for these amps. The cover I had made them a couple years ago is pretty beat up as it has been around the world so they want a new one.

So my list for the weekend has grown:
1. finish the Nocturne quilt
2. make a label for Oliver's quilt (it will be shipped to Bob along with another baby quilt for Florence, miscellaneous mail, and the amp cover)
3. finish the pink scarf
4. make the new amp cover
5. clean up the studio for company coming on Sunday afternoon. I am meeting a lady who wants to get into quilting. I don't know if she has any sewing experience, but I guess I will find out on Sunday. The woman is the sister of a couple of fellows that are friends of my brothers and that I know.

I guess this is a long enough list! No messing around for me this weekend! Have a great weekend!

Movie night and progress

I had to watch the Minion movie last night because it was due at the library yesterday. It is a cute movie. I had to laugh at the minion walking to the water wearing a thong! Those yellow butt cheeks - well, it is pretty funny!

While I watched the movie I knitted. I now only have two more inches and the pink scarf is done. I will be 72" long when finished. Now I just need to find someone who would enjoy owning and wearing it.

I have been busy collecting patches and t-shirts for my AC/DC art quilt for the Akron Art Prize this year. I waited too long last year to buy more patches, so I learned my lesson and I have been finding some good deals. Here is what I have so far. The BLACK IN BLACK patches were a group deal - that is why there is so many of them. I really only wanted one.

I did get a couple of t-shirts off of ebay that are on their way to me, but I need more. I am watching some auctions and hopefully score a few more. What I would like is t-shirts that represent the different tours AC/DC have had over the years. Now authentic tour shirts are expensive so I will end up with reprints, but that is fine. After all I am cutting them up!

I did get some of the Nocturne quilt sewn together. I decided to divide it up into sections. There are 336 patches so I am sewing 16 patch blocks. Sewing two 16 patch blocks equal section 1.

I got section one and section two sewn together, but I forgot to take a picture. Here is just section one sewn together.

The construction goes fairly quickly and it takes me a half hour to sew a section. I estimate it will take another 6 hours to get this top sewn together.

Top done? Knitting and sweeping

It was 72 degrees on March 8 in northeast Ohio - that is just crazy! This time of year it is usually cold, rainy, or a last of the winter season blizzard rolls in. It was hard to focus on anything as the weather trumped everything in my brain! I did sweep out the garage last evening so I could enjoy the weather. I needed to gather up the empty boxes in the garage for recycling pick up today so I thought I might as well sweep out the leaves and grit from winter.

I got the rest of the squares cut and placed on the design wall for the Nocturne quilt. I need to stare at it a bit more to decide if there are any changes that need made.

I did get a bit of knitting done too! I added another 1 3/4".

I also shot an hour after work looking for a phone number and placing a call for family business. I am just glad I found the number (it is now in my phone contacts!) so an issue can be resolved.

I got the 80 squares placed on the design wall, cut another 80 from another four fabrics, and hung them up on the design wall too. Here is what it looks like so far.

Tonight I will cut and add the navy fabrics and I am anxious to see what that looks like.

My sister sent me a picture of her scarfs. She wears them to work and sells them off her neck! She uses the money to help pay for her missionary trips to visit the children she sponsors.

I forgot to post a picture of the minion fabric Kathy brought me this weekend. She was someplace that was going out of business and picked up two yards of this for me! I love it!

I got another 3" knitted on my scarf. It is now 63" long.

My brother forwarded me a picture of Outlaw Pete on his quilt! Isn't that just the cutest?

The weather has been on the warm side for this time of the year in northeast Ohio. It was 63 yesterday and today could get up to 68 degrees! That is crazy for early March. Here are some of the daffodils in my flower bed.

There was a buck and a doe in the backyard late yesterday evening. The buck only had one antler.

Hiking, drinking, and knitting ... not necessarly in that order!

My sister, Kathy, came from Georgia for a visit. We had a great time! First place we went 10 minutes after I picked her up at the airport was a yarn shop. They had beautiful yarn.

And I bought this skein and a new pair of bamboo needles. The yarn is a Merino wool.

We spent Wednesday thru Sunday keeping very busy! We went on a couple of hikes. One was at a place call the Gorge. Many parts of the trail was "primitive" which meant there were rocks and tree roots to navigate thru. It was muddy in places and steep in others. There were steps down to the dam and steps back up to other paths. We must have been there at least a couple of hours. Thank goodness I suggested to bring a snack, because I was whipped when we got back to the car! Here are some pictures from that hike.

Between hiking and visiting family, Kathy and I would sit in my studio and knit and partake in a beverage. Kathy finished two scarves - I forgot to take pictures of them - and I worked on my pink scarf. My scarf is now 60" long - only 12" to go!

can you tell we like Mike's Hard Lemonade? This is our empties over a period of 5 days. We also are a fan of Seagram's grape.

I did get started on a quilt this morning out of the Moda Nocturne fabric I showed you last week. I had gone to bed very early because I was so tired, but was up at 4:30 this morning so I decided to get some of this fabric cut. I am cutting 4" squares and am playing around with the arrangement. Here is what I have so far on the design wall.

I have the next 80 squares cut and ready to be placed on the design wall.

These are the fabric left to cut. I still have a fat quarter of each fabric so I will be making a second quilt out of this fabric.

Keeping busy!

I worked on odds and ends as far as tidying up the house before company comes today. I did get a bit of knitting done on the pink scarf. I added another 3" so it is now 26.5" long.

I will be away from posting until Monday. We have plans of visiting yarn shops, knitting, visiting, hiking and drinking at bit! Catch up with you all next week!

No cleaning last evening

The weather was beautiful yesterday - 48 degrees and the sun was shining. After work I decided to head to the trail and go for a hike.

There is just one spot that is quite muddy. I did find the best path to go thru this area that wasn't' too bad. I did wear my New Balance all purpose boots that are good for snow as well as hiking.

After phone calls from two of my brothers and texting my sister, it was almost 7 so I needed to try and get something done. I got the label sewn on my nephew's t-shirt quilt

This morning I pulled out this fabric for my next quilt. I usually do not buy a collection, but I just loved this fabric. I don't know what I am going to make yet, but I needed to look at it and mull it over in my head today.

I forgot to post this picture of this fabric I found when cleaning the other day. It is not the best quality fabric, but it is pretty funny. I have some large scraps and I have no idea what I will ever do with it.
