The right fabric, next quilt project, I Collect progress

I had a hair appointment after work so I didn't get home until 6:30 which made for a short evening for getting anything done. I did find the piece of spiderweb fabric I was looking for that I couldn't find Monday. Here it is beside the other piece I was thinking about using for the back of the spider piece. The piece on the right has a bit of a gold/brown color that I think goes good with the spider. Now I just need to get it finished!

I decided I wanted to finish this t-shirt quilt made from shirts from my nephew's band so I found the pile and  hung up everything I had cut and sewn so far on the design wall.

I need more pieces for the improv piano key border so I cut more border pieces and paired them up.

I took one set, lined them up at the top then sliced them.

I added them to the design wall. These may get moved around once I get the center sewn together and all the pairs cut and sewn.

Here is my progress on the I Collect cross stitch piece. I am thinking of filling in the jar rather than just having the outline. I am going Saturday to get my oil changed and a headlight replaced, so filling in the jar would be a good job to do while I wait.

Spider finished, plant repotted, baby birds

First thing I did when I got home from work is to pot the philodendron that I saved when I redid the plants at the office. Here is what they looked like Feb. 23 - about 2 1/2 months ago - when I stuck them in water

Here is what it looks like now. It has plenty of room in this pot to grow.

I sat down and worked for about 45 minutes on the spider. I finished it this morning and here is what it looks like.

I found a piece of spiderweb fabric for the back.

My next cross stitch project will be I Collect. I am not going to stitch the word COLLECTOR and I am going to change the colors for the mason jar to be a pale turquoise and gray for the zinc cap.

Here is my small start which I did this morning.

The rest of my evening was spent doing dishes and finding the right piece of fabric for the I Collect piece. Several of us went to lunch yesterday to celebrate one of the women's 14th anniversary at work. On the way back we saw a momma and her babies running across the road. How cute are they! Let's hope she can keep them safe from the Red Tail Hawks!

10th finish for 2022, Carrot small done, tote bags, and next cross stitch project

The log cabin baseball quilt is done! I left the exact measurement at home, but it is about 55" x 65". I put music fabric on the back because it was one of the few pieces I have in my stash that would look ok with this quilt and I had enough yardage. 

The box is all packed including the scissor holder and will be on it's way to my sister's house today.

I finished the carrot cross stitch on Friday and turned it into a FFO - fully finished object - on Sunday. I used a mixture of wool batting and ground walnut shells to stuff it. The batting fills the space and the walnut grounds give it some weight. It measures 8 1/2" x 2 1/2".

I see many people finish their smalls by gluing on tiny rickrack or chenille, or mini pompom trim along the edge, but I like to stitch along the edge. I use a color floss that I stitched the piece with. I don't measure; I just stitch.

I spent some serious time this weekend cutting out tote bags for the merch booth for my nephew's band. I cut out 60 bags. I know that seems like a lot, but know we will need more. I already had 26 cut out of fabric that one of my blog reader, Cherie, sent me last year so 86 bags will be a good start for the season. Now I just have to get them made!  I also will be digging around to find a plastic bin to put them in for taking to the shows.  I look at this as an opportunity to either get rid of something I haven't been using or turn a bin of scraps into usable bits.  I have a bin in the garage and I am not sure what is in it.  Sounds like a candidate!

It finally stopped raining so I could mow the grass and it needed mow and trimmed! I also got a good start on my next cross stitch project. I found the chart in a book from the library. The book is called Creepy Stitching. As you can see I am almost done. I just have to finish the four legs on its left side. The legs stitch up fast. I am stitching this on a scrap of 32 count Lakeside linen in Maritime white. The design measures 4 1/4" x 4 3/4".  The design already came with skulls!  

Dinner and carrot progress

Dinner with my friend was great. We got to catch up and the food was delicious. I had cheese and crab wantons and sushi. Here is the sushi I had left. It will be a snack today!

Before we went to dinner we stopped into the Home Goods store that is next door to the resturant just to look around. The place was packed with all kinds of goodies! I found this cute ceramic Rae Dunn container on a clearance shelf. It cost four dollars.

Since I didn't have time to sew last night I will show you the cross stitch carrot I have been working on before work and at lunch time. It was a mystery stitch for me since I had no idea what it was going to look like when it was stitched. I was surprised to see that there was a little tiny house! It is almost done.

Years ago I had bought a lot of novelty fabrics including one with carrots on it. I dug around and found it! There is more than enough to use it for backing this carrot stitch.

My plans for the weekend are to finish the log cabin baseball quilt, finish the carrot, cut up that fabric for tote bags, and hopefully get outside to do a bit more yardwork. It is going to rain all day today, 70% chance tomorrow, and finally sun on Sunday. Have a great weekend!

Step one - binding

I got the binding strips sewn together, pressed and stitched on the log cabin baseball quilt. I am really liking the green binding. I probably won't get anything done tonight on it since I am going to dinner with a friend. If nothing else I will get this done over the upcoming weekend.

9th finish for 2022, amp cover done, cora bells

The chevron baseball baby quilt is finally done. I forgot to take measurements, but it is a nice size. Tonight I will work on the log cabin baseball quilt.

I got the third amp cover done.

My brother stopped over to pick up the amps and covers, but decided that I needed to sew one of the band's patches on the covers. So I had to rip open part of the corner so I could flatten the cover, stitch the patch on then sew the seam back up. It didn't take very long to do it. While I was doing that my brother moved some empty boxes from the garage to a shelf which was a big help. I would have had to use a ladder to put the boxes up, but he could just reach the shelf. 

We loaded up the amps and covers for there trip home.

My brother brought me two scissor holders that my SIL's uncle made. One is for me and one is for my sister. They are beautiful and will be a nice place for all my embroidery scissors.

Wanda, I checked on the cora bells. One is a good size, another one is coming along, and I found two pieces that were not longer in the ground. They still looked viable so I stuck them in the ground and gave them a drink. If it would quit raining I would get the cora bell bed weeded and finish up the big center bed, but it seems to either rain or I have something else more pressing I need to do.

Quilt progress and amp covers

What a weekend. I did get the log cabin baseball quilt all quilted.

I didn't have time to bind it or the chevron baseball quilt. The binding is cut and I will get them bound in the the next couple of days.

I dropped everything I was doing to work on three amp covers for my nephew. It took me forever to get the first one made. I was sewing like I had never made one before! The second one went much quicker. These are two Fender amps that are the same size.

The other small amp is a Roland so I will stitch an R on the top. I have all the pieces and parts ready to go so this I should be able to get it done tonight. I wanted to get these done so when my brother comes drop off something I can give him the amps and covers. I lined the car cover fabric with flannel and my nephew asked for a zippered pocket.

I did get that small sampler done. I have lost count of how many I need to frame now!  Yikes!

The next piece I am stitching is this small that was a freebee that was sent to me. I have no idea what this will look like when it is done so it is kind of a mystery stitch! I was surprised to see that there is a little tall house integrated into the carrot.  I had a scrap leftover from one of those little samplers and it was the perfect size for this.

I did spend 2 hours cleaning out the big center flower bed. It took me a long time to get the creeping charley out from under the Mugo pine.

What a mess!  I had to crawl under and between that plant to get all the creeping charley out. I had to cut out a few branches and my hair kept getting caught as I crawled around to try and get to the center. I did get it all pulled out.  I still have more to clean up in this bed which I was going to do on Sunday, but it rained on and off all day. There was some viscous lighting! I will post a picture once I finish cleaning it up. I also mowed Friday night, but with all the rain I am sure I will have to mow again this week.
