Yardwork and sewing

Saturday I heard noises outside. My neighbors are getting their house ready to put on the market and landscapers were doing some yard work for them. I heard what I thought was hedge clippers or a chain saw and I wanted to make sure they knew where the property line was so I decided to join them in the rain and work in the yard. They were a really nice bunch of guys. I worked on thinning out and candling my mugo pine for starters. The before

the after

Next was weeding the center bed and trimming the mugo pine- the before

and after

Lastly it was on to the front bed. I had pulled out the cora bells from this bed last December and covered with black plastic to kill the weed seeds over the winter. Oh, was it ever muddy! I almost lost a shoe a couple of times! Barren, but a clean pallet to work with!

I had an ornamental grass plant in another part of the yard so I decided to dig it up, cut it into pieces, and plant it in this bed. The grass can take the summer heat, it regrows every year, and it was free! It took me more that an house to dig the grass out and cut it into pieces. Gosh that stuff is tough! I wish I would have had a hatchet. I then divided up some Shasta daisies that also like the full sun and stuck them in the front bed. I think this is going to look so good in a few weeks.

The landscaper said he could bring me some sweet peat on Sunday. Yeah. After 6 1/2 hours of yardwork I was physically done for the day. I went thru three pairs of gloves and all my tools were covered with mud.

Sunday the sweet peat showed up.

I wheelbarrowed 16 loads into the two beds and 3 1/2 hours later - done!

I still have quite a bit left, but I have two more smaller beds to clean up and the rest I will store so I can redress the beds as needed.

I did work on the R.E.M. quilt. I got the lower left section sewed together and parts of the upper left sewn. I will have to do some careful cutting to get all these pieces to fit in the area I have left, but the top is so close to being done.

I am so glad I bought a new bottle of Excedrin when I went to the grocery on Saturday. I am feeling all that yardwork. The only part of me that isn't sore is my face! LOL!!!

Good job. Best to get it over before the heat of summer. I really need to go look at my front beds since the boyfriend usually looks after them and I don't know what survived the winter.

I don't know how you had any energy left to work on the quilt!

I am impressed that you managed to sew as well as all that outdoor work. Both the quilt and your garden looks great for the effort though.
