It was hot this past weekend - in the mid 80's - way hotter than it is suppose to be this time of year. The humidity is brutal too so I stayed indoors in the A/C as much as possible. I did have to mow and trim. It was hard with the sun beating on me.
Since I stayed indoors it was time to do a bit of cleaning and deal with piles. You know, those piles that just seem to appear! I moved some scraps around and emptied three containers. Two of the containers I wanted to put the flannel projects in them, so I had one for the baby quilt top blocks and the other I put the blocks in for the 9-patch quilt. Then I had kept the box from the new fry pan I bought a couple months ago and it was perfect for the pink and lavender pieces. Now if I need my big table for laying out something it will be easy to just move those containers.
I also now have a pile of four patch blocks
I have a pile of pieces that need sewn together to make more 4-patch blocks
and here is a pile of squares and pieced patches to make more units for more 4-patch blocks.
My sewing studio looks so much better with the clean up this weekend. I also did some cooking, dishes, and visiting family this weekend too. The temps this week are 87 today, 85 tomorrow, 81 Wednesday and 69 Thursday. It is going to be brutal at work with the heat and humidity so I am looking forward to Thursday. So with the cool down finally happening maybe next weekend I can get the garage straightened up and work on the rock borders for the large flower bed. I would like to get the pile of dirt out of the driveway before it snows.

It's Friday for me!
I am taking tomorrow off work and I am looking forward to a three day weekend. It has been warm and humid at work and Monday the high is forecasted to be 85! It will be like an oven in here again.
I have lots of things planned and as usual, more planned than any one person can accomplish in three days. I am going to try though!
I still have the rest of the 2" strips to sew together for the pink and lavender quilt
I also have a pile of shorter 2" wide pieces that I need to pair up and sew. I have no idea how many of these units I will end up making or how many I need for the quilt top; I am just using up the pink and lavender flannel I have and see what happens! I would call that winging it!
Have a great weekend.

Pink and lavender flannel quilt
I finally got the 2" strips matched up into pairs
I even managed to get a few sets sewn together
The strips will make cute little 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" units.

Busy times
I know I have been missing for a few days. Work last week was insane. 10 hour days is just too much especially when the problems just keep coming.
This weekend was not long enough so to sum it up:
* worked on the project I can't show you Saturday and Sunday. I am making good progress though!
* Did laundry and lots of dishes
* cooked chickens, deboned them, and ended up with lots of broth for making brown rice, bok choy and chicken for lunches. Tonight I will skim the fat, divide this up, and freeze it.
* worked the merch booth for my nephew Saturday night. It was a church celebration for their anniversary - I don't remember how many years - but they had lots of food stands and I bought some handmade pierogis - potato, cheese, and bacon. They were so good!
* and finished out the weekend by making oatmeal raisin cookies for some of the guys at work that helped me out with some issues last week.

Oops!
I started sewing the next group of strips for the pink and lavender quilt. They are 2" wide strips.
I then took the strip of two 2" wide strips and sewed it to a 3 1/2" strip.
I sliced those units into 3 1/2" pieces and this is what the block will look like once it is sewn together
This pieced 4 patch will then get sewn to a 6 1/2" block
The big oops is that I sewed all the 3 1/2" strips into pairs! Wrong!!
I have no idea what I was thinking. Oh well, I will rip those strips apart a few at a time. Geeze!!!
When I got home I did see that one of my coneflowers had three flowers that bloomed and a couple more to follow. This plant was shorter than the other three all summer, but it is now about the same height. A late bloomer I guess.

Onward to the pink and lavender flannel
I did good and managed to get most of the pink and lavender strips sewn together. I sewed them together mixing the different prints. These are 3 1/2" strips.
I am going for a random look. I saw this quilt on Bill's Wonkyworld blog and I thought it might look good in all the different pink and lavender flannels I had accumulated.

A good weekend
Friday night I got nothing done. It got up to 89 outside so it had to be close to 100 inside the construction zone. I was having to do some physical jobs so the sweat was dripping off of me. I was wiped out so all I wanted was to take a shower and sit in the air conditioning. I did get busy the rest of the weekend and spent the majority of my time working on the project I can't show you yet.
I did get the blocks for the baby flannel quilt sewn together and pressed. There are 38 4-patch blocks in this pile.
I have three more strips to slice and make into blocks, but I set those aside because I want to layout the blocks I have to see what works design wise. If I need to introduce another fabric I will need the cream flannel to pair with it. I have this blue flannel that would look good with the fabrics already in the blocks.
The heat has finally been turned off! What a relief! I did force myself to go mow last evening. The back yard was very long - at least 8 inches! It took awhile to mow that because I had to go so slow with my little mower. It is going to rain today so I had to get that grass mowed. It needs a good trimming too, but that can wait. Despite it being cooler, I was still sweating pretty good by the time I got the back yard done. Someone needs to turn of the humidity machine!
