TGIF

I quilted three more blocks of the t-shirt last evening so that's four down and seventeen to go. I starting winding bobbins for the next blocks to quilt.

Saturday is going to be busy - hair color and cut in the morning, my nephew's band is playing a fund raising event in the afternoon (1 p.m. - 4 p.m.), and I volunteered at the art museum to help out with the wine auction fund raiser. I just found out I have to be at the museum at 4:15 instead of 4:45. The event doesn't start until 6 p.m., but we have to be there early for the auctioneer to teach us how to spot a bib - really? and hour and 45 minutes to teach us how to spot a bid? Oh well, I will grin and bear it.

My plans are up in the air for Sunday, but I know I have to squeeze in mowing and weeding somewhere.

Have a great weekend!

T-shirt quilting started

After hauling in the groceries and making a batch of yogurt last evening, I got myself motivated to at least start quilting the t-shirt quilt. One square done - 20 to go.

Eighth finish of 2011 - wedding quilt

Done - what else can I say? Now I need to get it mailed.

This is my next project - to quilt this.

Wedding quilt binding and my prize

I got the binding on the quilt last evening - YEAH! I will be handsewing it on the back. I figure that will take 3 - 3 1/2 hours. I will start it at lunch today and hit it hard tonight. When I folded it up this morning I was suprised how heavy this quilt is - must be the linen.

I won this pack of Aurifil thread from www.SarahVedelerDesigns.com. Since I plan on finishing the number of UFOs I have sitting around I am sure I will come across something that I can use these colors on. I have not used Aurifil thread so I am anxious to try and it out.

Quilt-a-palooza results

Twenty hours and 3300 yards of thread later and the wedding quilt is quilted. It is 88" x 91". I quilted for twelve hours on Saturday and eight hours on Sunday. I took a break on Sunday and altered the bridesmaid dress, but the last two hours of quilting on Sunday were very hard. I wanted to quit, but I was so tired and so close to being done so I took a deep breath and stuck with it. To say the least not a whole lot of anything else was accomplished this weekend. I did wash a load of clothes and did the dishes, but that was about it.

I have the binding cut, ready to press in half and sew on. I will work on the binding the next couple of evenings. My goal is to get this in the mail by Friday and yes I will post a picture once it is done.

Wedding quilt quilt-a-palooza

This weekend will be a total concentrated effort in getting the wedding quilt done. I have nothing else planned except dropping my brother's pants that I altered at the local ball diamond tonight (he coaches his son's little league team) and watching (on TV) the Criterium International bike race on Sunday.

I am already formulating what my next project will be. I don't have any t-shirts yet from my niece, so I think I will quilt the baseball t-shirt and get it off the list - but then again my plans could change!

Have a great weekend!

The power of words

It was time to change the piece hanging behind my desk. Here is the piece that hung in May. I did not get many comments or questions about it. Mostly it was the look on people's faces that were saying to me - what the heck is that?

Here is the new piece I hung for the month of June and so far I have had a lot of comments and questions on what the piece is about. I like that. Once I explain the nuiances of the piece and tell them who Thor Hushovd is, I get the ok that's kind of cool look. What I have learned is people like the piece with the words on it. Yes, they couldn't pronounce the man's name and I needed to explain what the other information that was stamped on meant, but it made people stop and ask questions. I think I will use more words in my future pieces.

I haven't worked on this series for awhile and I need to get back to it. With the professional bicycling season in full swing right now maybe I will get some inspiration! Of course with all the quilts I have on my list that need done now the series again is taking a backseat.
