Log cabin progress, a broken foot, and weeds
I spent most of the weekend quilting on the log cabin quilt. The quilt is 82" x 95" and I am now 71% done with the quilting! I tried switching bobbin casings, but that didn't help. Eventually Saturday evening the bobbin issues seem to clear up and I only had two times where the bobbin goobered up on Sunday.
I used this King Tut variegated thread on the front and back. It looks tan on some of the fabrics and I see hints of blue on others. I have two spools left and that will be plenty to finish this quilt.
Here are my empty spools. I just bought six spool of this thread a few weeks ago when Signature Thread had this color on sale for 70% off. There is 500 yards on a spool.
The foot I used to FMQ broke. This is the second foot I have broken in the many, many years I have done free motion quilting. I always keep a spare on hand. I will be ordering another foot to be the new spare.
I watched the TDF while I quilted on Sunday and this poor fellow crashed going about 30 mph. He slid across the asphalt into the weeds. They checked his injuries and did a concussion examine. The fellow got back on his bike. There was still several hours of racing to go. The backside of his left arm was also missing skin. Ouch!
The rider caught up to the medical car and there the doctors worked on patching him up. The doctor's car is at the very back of the race and is the only car the riders are allowed to hold onto.
Sunday morning I did get outside to weed for an hour and a half. I don't know what these weeds are called but they showed up after I had put down the mulch on the center bed last weekend.
I got those pulled and a few more other weeds so now that bed looks better. I did see a few of the California poppies seeds I spread start to come up.
