Day 3 - log cabin quilt top and backing
Day 3 and I was moving slower. I started the day off by going grocery shopping. It took two hours with travel time and hitting 3 stores. The heat was getting to me. After putting the cold stuff away and getting something to eat, it was back to the studio to work on the log cabin quilt. The top is done. It is 82" x 96".
I spent a couple hours sewing some yardage together for the back. I used a print and after I had it done, I decided I wasn't going to like it for the back of the log cabin. I tried to talk myself into going ahead with that print, but I just could not convince myself that I would be happy with it. I will keep it for another project. Here is my pile of leftover backing pieces. I will piece them together to make a back for the log cabin.
I headed outside around 6 p.m. to water the flowers. It was still 89 degrees although there was a nice breeze at times which was nice. I didn't get the rest of the garage cleaned out this weekend or the backyard mowed; it was just too hot. Temperatures are a bit cooler this week - the low 80's - so maybe I can get some mowing done. Rain is also in the forecast so I will have to work around that.

Another hot one today. I get the moving slower in the heat. I try to get outside by 6am so that I can attach weeds and outside chores. I can get my mowing done when it's hot because I have a zero turn mower. The movement keeps me cool. LOVE the log cabin quilt.
As for grocery stores, my three around here are Marc's, Aldi, and Giant Eagle when there's a really good deal or something good on the FlashFoods app (where I get stuff for about 50% off that is going to be outdated -- coffee beans in particular.). But it's gotta be a really good deal to get me into Giant Eagle... What are your three? I choose to not pay to be a member of a "club". If I have to pay to go into a grocery store, it's not for me.
your log cabin is pretty doggone cool!!!
and the rest of that stuff can wait...
The log cabin quilt top came out great with the multiple stripe fabrics. It has cooled off here too but still a little sticky out. I have windows open this morning, maybe will need A/C later this afternoon. Breeze is from the north.
The heat really takes it out of me, too. I’m glad you talked yourself out of the print backing……I have tried not listening to myself and am always unhappy when I don’t change course 🙁 This quilt is fun……I love the improvisation of the different stripes you used. And bonus, you sent 5 pounds of strips to someone who will love using them and your bin has some breathing room!
Oh gosh, low 80's. That would be delightful!
