New 16 patch blocks and quilt receipant

I spent a lot of time this weekend in the studio wrangling those 3 1/2" strips of African fabric into usable units. They needed sorted so I did that and hung them up on the design wall. Then I got out my solids and started cutting 3 1/2" strips. I also cut 2 1/2" strips so when I go to use up the 2 1/2" strips of African fabrics I will already have the solids cut.
Here is my pile

Here is my stack of strips all sewn together. I have no idea how many blocks I will get from this pile of strips.

I opened one up and turned it to show the four strips sewn together.

Next I stacked the strip units and sliced them into 3 1/2" units. Just so you know I pressed all the seams toward the print.

I flipped them around and this will be the block

I took the 4 patch units that were extra and put them in a pile. These will all be sewn together to make a quilt top.

Here are the blocks I have made so far.

Friday I gave the African quilt to Allen. She loved it and I knew she would after I saw the dress she was wearing.
Here she is with the quilt. She said she would feel like a princess sleeping under the quilt.

I got this book from the library
and decided on Sunday I would make pizza. The crust recipe is not hard, but is time consuming! You can't be in a hurry for sure. There is very good instructions for each step of making a irregular holed flavorful crust. I did cheat and took half the dough to make my pizza instead of letting the dough rest in the fridge for 12 to 72 hours. It will be interesting to taste the difference when I use the aged dough.
Here is my pizza and the nice browning on the bottom.

It takes 4 hours for the dough's final rise so in order for me to have a pizza on a weekday, I will have to bring the dough to work, dimple spread the dough during lunch - the dough has to rest for 20 minutes between each session of getting the dough spread to the edges of the pan - and then letting the dough rise for 4 hours. It was really good crust - light, airy, but crisp on the edge and bottom.

I did finally mow grass this weekend. I got most of the trimming done. I did notice lots of bees on the coneflowers and lavender plants. I talked to them and encouraged them to visit the squash plants. I wonder if they heard me? LOL!!

Don't you love it when you have the perfect quilt for someone?

I have a stack of 2.5" strips of African fabric and I have solids cut that width too. I might just be in 16 patch mode this week.

Your friend looks pretty darned happy to have that quilt. I know how happy you must feel to gift it to her. I am going to start a new quilt for my great grandson and had a pattern in mind. Now I am thinking I should look for instructions on how you made this 16 patch block. It might just be a better fit for the fabrics I have.

I have totally lost interest in working outside. Perhaps if it cools off like they predict I will get back to it. Right now my sewing room beckons louder, lol.
