5th finish for 2018 and comments

I managed to get another baby quilt bound last night. So now I have four out of the seven done.

I thought it was so strange that I didn't have any comments lately. I was getting lonely not hearing from anyone. Well, blogger is not putting the comments to my gmail first; it is just putting them in the awaiting to be published place! I thought I have fixed the issues, but apparently not. What did happen is when I published the comments? They comments then showed up in my gmail! That is backwards! I will be going thru all the comments and responding, but in the meantime here are some answers:

my free motion quiliting - I just wing it. I am the stitch regulator as I use my trusty old 1475CD Pfaff machine. I have been using the same pattern on all the quilts. It is one I don't get bored with.

The temperatures are better at work. The outside temps have dropped and it is not nearly so hot in here. It is still noisy and dirty, but at least it is not over 80 degrees.

How to do I get the rocks out of my car? Well, I put a blanket down to protect the bumper from being scratched, I put the side of the wheelbarrow next to the bumper pinning it to the bumper with my thighs, I roll the rock toward the sloped end of the wheelbarrow, and slide the rock down that slope as slow as possible. It usually slides pretty fast with the heavier rocks and I have the bruises on my thighs to show for that! When the rocks slides fast it moves the wheelbarrow and in recoiling the wheelbarrow hits my thighs. This process actually works pretty good. I know these latest rocks weigh close to 100 pounds. I have learned that once I get them in the wheelbarrow I need to take them close to where I am going to use them to save myself some work.

My cold is better today although I still have quite a cough. My big plans for the weekend are to get the other three baby quilts bound and to start reworking that double wedding ring quilt. The lady that owns the quilt is getting anxious to get it back. I don't blame her. I have had it for two years and it is time to get it done. Have a great weekend!

2nd, 3rd, and 4th finishes for 2018

Here it is August and I am just getting my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th finishes for the year. It seems like I am at the sewing machine all the time so what is going on? LOL!! So I now have 3 out of the seven baby quilts done.

I have the binding cut out for the next two quilts so I will be working on those tonight. Today is day seven of my cold. I don't feel great, but at least it is cooler at work which helps.

Next

I got the corner mitered on both quilts, both quilts trimmed, and the binding pressed.

All that is left to do on these two quilts is to added the label and stitch the binding. I will be doing that by machine and should be able to get both done tonight.

I brought home a couple of rocks last night. The contractors are starting to demo the parking lot where people were parking while the new parking lot was being constructed. They were allowed to park in the new lot yesterday so the contractor wasted no time in starting to rip out the old one. The old one will be connected to the new one. New underdrain, catch basins, and perforated payment will be added to the newest lot. There is an elevation difference between the two lots so that will have to be resolved also.

Binding-palooza!

It is time to get these seven baby quilt bound!

I already had binding cut for the pink ones so that is where I started. I started sewing the strips together and after sewing on the third strip I looked at the back side and saw this

What the heck? I rethreaded the machine and nothing changed. I proceeded to clean all the lint I could and after rethreading again and messing with the tension, it was finally sewing correctly. Onward! I got the binding sewn on the first quilt

Then I sewed the binding on the second pink quilt. I was a bit short and I found a scrap of leftover binding. I added that to the binding I had left and thought I had enough to finish the last side. I was wrong; I was about two inches short!

I dug around in my pink scrap bin and low and behold found a scrap big enough! Tonight I will cut that scrap and finish sewing the binding on.

After that is done, I will sew the mitered corners and possibly trim and press the binding.

Binding next!

I started on Friday with a cold and felt lousy over the weekend, but I did find the energy to at least trim and mow the front yard Saturday evening and machine quilt those boy quilts. In fact, I got the last three boy quilts quilted!

So here is my stack of baby quilts that need bound. I am planning on binding them this week.

I did get my new stock pot on Friday. I use an 8 quart for cooking pasta, making soup, and sauce. I got a great deal on this pan and I will never have to buy another one. The pan is hefty and I can just feel the quality. The two small stock pots I had were ok and are green pans, but they were pretty beat up. I plan on using the larger of the two for dyeing fabric so at least I will get some more use out of it.

So glad it is Friday

It was hard getting up this morning. The heat is getting to me; it is 80 in here this morning and we won't even talk about the humidity. My sinuses are stuffy from breathing in dirt all day and my legs ached last night so it was hard to sleep.

After work I went and got my oil changed so I wouldn't have to leave the house this weekend. This morning I was up very early since I just couldn't sleep and got some quilting done on the third of five boy quilts. This amount of quilting was running thru two bobbins.

I have a lot I need to do this weekend with the first thing of cleaning up the front yard. I have some crabgrass that is enormous! I haven't done anything in the front since it has been so hot and I have felt so lousy. I am going to try and get out early and at least make an attempt to put a dent in the mess.

I would like to get that baseboard sanded and put on a finish coat of paint, and of course get some quilting done. One of my brothers called me yesterday and will be needing a girl baby quilt in a couple of months - yes, another girl! As soon as I get the boy quilts done, I will have to get back to making more girl quilts. That will be six girl quilts and no boy quilts given away this year. It seems to be the year of the girl!

Then it is R.I.P. Aretha. What a voice.

Thought I was done ...

but no! I had someone that was willing to help so more rocks! Big rocks! I hauled home three yesterday. I put a folded up paper beside and on top of one of the rocks so you could get some sense of the size. They are beauties aren't they?!

After I got home a bit later than usual, moved the rocks, got something to eat, and sat down for awhile, I got up to make cookies for the fellows that loaded the rocks for me.

After a very hot day at work - near 90 degrees - moving 100 pound rocks and having a horrible nights sleep the night before
I only had the energy to take a shower and go to bed early.

On the way in to work this morning I saw this truck in the parking lot. I am not sure what statement they were making, but I thought is was quite creative!
