More workshop samples and gathering stuff to take

Last night I worked on the final samples for the workshop tomorrow. I just wanted to show how to join curved pieces.

I have been gathering item that I need to take all week. I have a table in the laundry/dye studio that I designated as the spot to put things as I think of items I want to take. I have most of the quilts gathered, fabric for sale, my block samples and fabric to cut in class, and a container of stuff like power strips, tape, Band-Aids, and extra rotary cutter blades. I will add a lot more stuff to the container tonight as I pack up the sewing machine and all the rest of the stuff in the car. Here is my pile so far.

Have a great weekend!

Washing the car and another sample for workshop

It was warm yesterday at lunchtime - 46 degrees warm! I decided to get my power washer out and wash the car to get all the salt and grime off of it. Here is the before and after

Last night I worked on making up a sample of my improv log cabin quilt. I took pictures as I went along and now I have to find the time to add them to my powerpoint. Here is what the quilt looks like now. I don't need to finish is for the workshop. I just needed to made something so I could take pictures of the process. This will make a cute baby boy giveway quilt.

Tonight I will work on taking pictures of drunker's path blocks. This will be for teaching how to sew those types of curves.

Workshop blocks and the snow clean up

After I walked home from work I knew I was going to have to shovel the driveway. My driveway faces south and the sun shone on it all day so the snow compacted and went from light and fluffy to compact. Well, it was like shoveling concrete! Here I am close to being done. You can see the cul-de-sac has not been plowed yet and it is a mess.

Here I am done looking back at the house. It is suppose to warm up so much of this will be gone in the next few days.

Sometime during the night the city came by and plowed the cul-de-sac. They left a bit of stuff at the bottom of my driveway so I cleaned that up this morning before I left for work.

After I was done shoveling and having something to eat I worked on more example blocks for my workshop. I wanted to show blocks with all thinner stripes

Blocks with all fatter stripes

And then turning fat striped blocks into checkerboards

Here is my portable design wall. It is 36" x 24". I laid the yardstick on it so you could see the size.

More snow

I forgot my camera at work yesterday. Last night I made a portable design wall out of some nice cardboard I had and some flannel. I will use this at my workshop on Saturday. I also am working on some more how to's for the workbook including improv drunkard path blocks.

I ended up walking to work because we got almost 6" of snow last night. The city hadn't plowed even the main street in the neighborhood. It is still snowing and I knew I would have a hard time with my car in that much snow so I walked. Here is the pile at work now and the snow overhanging the roof of the trailer.

Tonight when I get home I will have to shovel the driveway - that will be a job and a half! I need to get pictures of the other improv techniques so I get print the workbook. Saturday is approaching quickly!

5th finish 2014

Another finish! This one is 40.5" x 50.5" and it the last of these pink quilts. I only have about another yard of the fabric that I have been using for the backs of these pink quilts.

We were lucky because we only got about an inch of snow yesterday. It was quite beautiful. I felt like I was in a snow globe. I still went out this morning and shoveled the driveway.

I had no idea it was as cold this morning as it was. I turned on the weather channel and bam

The five day shows it warming up a bit, but as soon as it warms up then we are going to get more snow.

The rest of this week is all about getting ready for my workshop on Saturday. I keep thinking of things I need to bring so I need to start a list!

Happy V day

Today I am posting pictures of some small pieces I made a number of years ago that have hearts on them. I also decorated them with buttons, ribbon, and the blue piece has a broach that belonged to my Grandmother.

14.x" x 17"

11.75" x 14.5"

14" x 16"

I found an on-line outlet that had New Balance shoes on clearance. I bought three pair. I paid what only one pair at retail would have cost me. How about that pair on the right? Colorful enough?

Have a great weekend!

Blocks are done

I finished up sewing the blocks together and have the first row on the left sewn together. Tonight I should be able to get the rest of the blocks sewn into rows and sew the rows together. That said, I should be able to start quilting this piece over the upcoming weekend.

I finally remember to take the time to put the label on the drum fabric quilt so I can get it in the mail.

This morning's temp

I is suppose to get up to the mid thirties today, but then the temps drop again. I was hoping I could wash my car. It is just covered with salt.
