22nd and 23rd blocks done on the yellow and gray quilt

I had a productive afternoon and evening yesterday. I did burn thru about one hour and 45 minutes picking up my brother's mail at the post office and his house then going to the grocery, but I am glad that is done. This afternoon and evening I have a packed agenda to get ready for Peg coming tomorrow.

Two more blocks done! So I am now at 77% complete with the quilting and have 4,352 square inches toward my Quilt your Quilts challenge. Only 7 more blocks to quilt.

I threw the quilt on Peg's bed just to see how it is going to look. I need to do something with those mismatched temporary curtains! I took the black and white curtains I had made for this room and put the in the Master bedroom.

Have a great weekend!

The humidity ...

well, it had gotten the best of me and the yellow and gray quilt. It was so humid in the house last evening I had to turn the A/C on. The quilt was so damp I just couldn't work on it. Here are the two humidistats I have. They read differently, but the humidity was still high. At 5 p.m. the reading were just under 75% and the other over 75%.

After the A/C ran the humidity levels dropped and were a bit over 60% on the left humidistat and at 75% on the right.

This morning here is what they read. They both went down a bit more. My lower level is a slab built back in the day when builders did not put vapor barrier down before they poured the slab. I don't have a basement. I get a lot of ground moisture vapor that seeps thru the slab so the lower level is always more humid than the upstairs. The floors also stay cool so as the humidity and temperature go up, the floors get moist. I can feel the difference now even though the humidity seems still a bit high.

We had a thunderstorm blow thru this morning at 2:30 a.m. The lighting was fierce! It only lasted about 15-20 minutes, but it did dump quite a bit of rain. It is overcast this morning and I think we could get more rain which we need.

I did stop at the library after work and I am excited about this book. I am participating in a challenge on 15 minutes to play to turn a picture into an piece inspired by that picture so I think this book is just the ticket.

This is my inspirational picture. That is Bret Michaels at the Nautical stage in Cleveland at the Rib Cook Off. I really like the bridge in the background.

I am taking a half day vacation today to tackle this list that I want to get done before Peg comes this weekend. I want to relax with her and have a good time just sewing so I need to get this stuff out of the way.

21st block done on the yellow & Gray quilt

Are you bored with me posting these blocks yet? This project to me seems to be moving at a snails pace! I was trying to come up with something new to say about this block. I decided I would count the number of rows of quilting. In this block there are 73 rows that are mostly spaced about 3/8" apart. I am up to 3,840 square inches quilted for the Quilt your Quilts challenge.

So now I have 21 out of 30 blocks quilted or I am 70% done with the quilting.

At least I did not have to water the flowers or the seeds last evening. It has rained quite a bit the last couple of days. Right now the sun is shining, but according to the forecast we are in for some bad storms this afternoon and tomorrow. We'll see. The weather person is the only job where you can be wrong all the time and still have a job.

20th yellow & gray block done

Slowly but surely the yellow and gray quilt is getting done. Will it be done by Friday night? Probably not. Here is the 20th block and a shot of the back. I now have 3,584 square inches quilted for the Quilt your Quilts challenge and with 20 out of 30 blocks quilts, the quilt is 66.7% quilted.

I made the mistake of going into my fabric storage room this morning. I looked around and there are several projects I would love to get to. I am going to make a veteran's quilt top to sent to VIcki of Field Trips in Fiber out of these homespuns

Here is the tub of t-shirts and the orange fabric I collected for a graduation t-shirt quilt for my niece. I ran into her in the grocery where she works on Saturday and she asked how her quilt was coming along. Well ...... it needs made!

Here is some Yo Gabba Gabba fabric along with a few other pieces that needs to be turned into two quilts by October for birthday presents.

Then I had forgotten about the platypus fabric that I need to make a pillow case for my brother to give to his wife.

I need to get crack-a-lackin'!

Here are some shots of my fabric storage room for any readers who are new and did not see the photos of this room several years ago when I re-did this room. I am lucky to live by myself in a four bedroom house that I have the luxury of using one bedroom for my fabric.

18th & 19th block done - where did the weekend go?

My goodness this weekend just flew by. Here was my list. I did get some of the kitchen cleaned up, but it is not done so I couldn't cross it off the list.

Saturday morning was Home Depot, haircut, and Marc's. I did some sewing until it was time to get ready and head to the Art museum's wine auction. Here are some photos of the event. I worked from 5 to 10 p.m.

Flower arrangements at the silent auction tables

The tables

Sunday I worked on the yellow and gray quilt and got block 19 quilted. I can't believe I only managed to get two blocks quilted this weekend. That leaves 11 more to quilt. I don't think I will have this quilt done before Peg comes this weekend. So that is another 512 square inches quilts for a total of 3,325 for the Quilt your Quilts Challenge.

Next I decided to put the first coat of paint on the office room.

While I was painting I saw a deer wandering thru the neighborhood.

After painting I washed dishes, then it was out to mow. After mowing I planted some dianthus seeds in the front flower bed and had to move my Gerber Daisies. Why? Here is one of the plants with flowers

Here are the other two plants that HAD orange and yellow flowers, but the deer came along and ate the flowers.

So I moved the daisies to an area between the Lenten roses. Lenten roses are poisonous to deer so maybe they won't chance trying to eat the daisies. I want to save the Gerber daisies as these were a Mother's day gift. I will have to let my son know that the deer like my present too!

The canna still look a bit sad, but some of the leaves are greening up. It warmed up yesterday and with all the rain we are getting today, that ought to help them. I should have thrown down some fertilizer for them. I will have to do that between rain showers this week.

I spray painted two more shadowbox frames, but they need a second coat so I could not finish these.

Yellow & gray quilt 17th block done

First thing last evening was to get outside and dig up some plants for a co-worker since the rain had stopped. He has a shady area and didn't know what to plant. I needed to move the Lenten roses from the sunny front to the shady back so I just dug up three of those to give to him. Then I went and dug up some of the coral bells. Here they are ready for delivery.

After changing out of the muddy clothes, I got to quilting. Here is block 17 done. I now have quilted 2,816 square inches for the Quilt Your Quilts Challenge and have 57% of the yellow and gray quilt quilted.

I got a good deal on-line for rotary cutting blades so I bought two packs. I will be set for a long time!

This picture came out much darker than I thought it would, but it is of the spinach sprouting! If you make the picture bigger you can see them. The seeds were at least a year old so I wouldn't be surprised if I only get a few plants. I will start another pot in a couple of weeks so I can keep a crop going in stages.

I have to fix these jean tonight to take to hair salon Saturday morning. They belong to the sister of the lady who cuts my hair. I have no idea how on earth she ripped these. I put a white towel behind the rip so you could see it. I have a plan for fixing this and I will make sure I take pictures for posting on Monday.

The plans for the weekend are Saturday evening I will be working at the Art Museum for the annual wine auction. Of course I will be working on the yellow and gray quilt and doing final prep for Peg's visit next weekend. I need to mow, but that will depend on the weather. I think I have another busy weekend ahead!

Yellow & gray quilt - blocks 15 & 16 quilted

I needed to get two blocks quilted to make up for not getting a block quilted Tuesday evening, so I did manage to get block 15 and 16 done. Yeah! I am now 53% done with the quilting. My total square inches quilt for the Quilt Your Quilts challenge is now 2,560 square inches.

Before I went to work I took apart another frame and glued the wallpaper to the backing board. This time I used a spray adhesive instead of Elmer's. I found the spray adhesive when I cleaned the laundry/utility/dye studio this past weekend and I thought I would give it a try. I liked it better than Elmer's because the paper did not wrinkle. I laid out the starfish, but couldn't glue then down because I couldn't find the glue. Here I had put it away! If it stops raining I will spray paint the frame after work.
