Cutting out thread beds
I received another order for three more thread beds. After sending pictures so she could pick her fabrics, I spent last evening getting everything cut out and the zipper pieces pressed to size. I dug thru the pile of zippers to find the best match I could. Wanda, recognize this fabric? I had not gotten around to making a tote bag out of it, so now it will be thread beds! LOL!! This was only a 3/4 yard piece, but I was able to get three thread beds. One will be for my customer and the other two will be added to my storage bin for the future. The purple/pink watercolor batik was from my stash.
The lady then picked this purple dragonfly fabric and swirl fabric for her other two thread beds. I had enough fabric to cut two out of the swirl fabric, but only enough of the aqua for the inside fabric for two so I cut some lavender batik for the extra thread bed. I found matching thread out of that big lot of thread I bought off of eBay earlier this year and zippers to match. It was fun to go pick the already cut fleece lining, interfacing, and vinyl from the precut pieces and parts trays I set up.
It won't take long to get these sewn together so I can get them mailed. I plan on just making the ones I need for the order and set the other ones aside until I get the Harley quilt done. Here is my new home for The Hulk. This a sewing machine table my dad had made that was my mom's. Dad made me one too that I have my machine in. It is a bit lower than my big table which makes it easier push the handle down to install the snaps.
I realize that I do need to buy more purple fabric. I don't buy much purple because I am not a big fan, but I do buy it because my sister loves purple and I make her a lot of project bags. I also really like making thread beds out of batik fabrics. The higher count fabric presses so nice and they make lovely thread beds. My stash of the more watercolor/"solid" colors is very low so I am going to have to keep an eye out for sales. The third item I need to buy are more snaps in different colors. Since I plan on making a lot of these TBs for the next retreat I attend, I have been stocking up on supplies, but there seems to be more items I need that pop up! No, I have not forgotten about the Harley quilt. I have eight days to get it finished including a Saturday and Sunday so I will be fine.
