Yeah it is Friday!

I finished sewing on the binding on the polyester baby quilt and sewed one more row of quilting for good measure. I am so glad this is done. I will meet up with the lady tomorrow and hand it off.

I think I will work on the Buffet baby quilt this weekend. If I get ambitious this weekend I will pin baste the gray and pink quilts too and maybe finish grouting the bathroom. The weather is suppose to be in the 50's this weekend so I may change my mind and get some yard work done instead.

Have a great weekend!

Almost done with this polyester project

I can't wsit to get this quilt done. This polyester is driving me crazy! I had a conversation with the lady I am doing this for and she was very receptive to all the information I was giving her especially - no more polyester! I have one side of the binding hand sewed on, so I am close to being done

The appraiser finally turned in their report so closing should happen soon.

Ready for the binding

I am now to the point on this baby quilt that I need to attach the binding. The blue gingham border is very cheap fabric and it wants to go all over the place. I figure the binding will help stabilize it so I can add more quilting.

Banana bread and polyester?!

Here is the last piece of banana bread from the loaf I made Sunday. I had some bananas that had turned black so it was time to make bread. I threw in some pecans and the bread was pretty darn good.

Last night I worked on quilting a quilt for a lady that is a friend of a friend. Well, let's just say that she needs some guidance, because she used polyester! The batting was polyester and some of the fabric including the backing had polyester. I could not free motion this so I am just doing some lines. When I give her the quilt on Saturday I will give her an example of free motion using cotton of course for the top, backing, and 80/20 for the batting. She is just learning so I need to get her going in the right direction. I will do my best to make it look nice, but the feel - yuck! I don't want to put a lot of time into this, but I will try to make it as nice as possible. The binding will probably take longer than quilting it.

Productive weekend

I worked on the gray and pink quilts on Saturday. I just started sewing together the pieces I already had cut out and found I did not have enough pieces already cut. Then there were some left blocks and some right blocks so I just started cutting more pieces to fill in the gaps. I used up some of my Kona snow scraps (always good to use up those scraps!) and cut out enough of the pinks and grays to make two quilts. While I was at it I cut the bindings too. These are on the small side - about 32" x 43".

Here are a couple of pieces of Sassaman fabric I found in my stash that will make cute back for these quilts.

I got the Buffet inspired top done! Do you remember how I agonized over the fabric for that last row? Well, I found the cute beach ball fabric on sale, picked up a half yard and used it for the last row and I love it! If you have ever been to a Buffet concert you know there are beach balls bouncing throughout the crowd. The top is 47 1/2" x 60".

Here is the backing and binding for the Buffet quilt. I know the fish on the white and blue fabric are not sharks, but I think it will still make a cute backing and fit in with the theme. They are Spanish Mackerel.

I also got the window treatments for the office cut out and some stitching done on them. I have a sheet covering the closet's contents right now. The afternoon sun shines thru one of the windows onto the closet and I need to get window coverings on before the summer sun blares into this room. They are just simple treatments - the same I put on the fabric storage room windows - so they will not take long to make.

I did spend about three hours cleaning the garage on Saturday. It was such a mess from cutting wood for the bathroom. When Mike and I pulled out the vanity to take into the house, I just took all the stuff that was on top of it and around it and pitched it to the side. It looks much better now and I can wallk all the way around the car without tripping on stuff.

Right now it is snowing! I don't think it will accumulate, but I am tired of this cold weather. Yes, in a few months I will complain that it is too hot!

Getting little things done

I went to the drug store at lunch yestday. They had Excedrine on sale and playtex gloves two for the price of one. Their slogan is "Discount Drug Mart saves you the run around, they have everything you need" and it is true! I find things I didn't know I needed! When I was in there I found some inexpesive plant pots I needed for my cactus and suculents I brought back from California, and the correct potting mix for them. It is hard to find cactus and succulent potting mix in Ohio in the winter! So I repotted my little friends last night and gave them a good drink of water. I have been afraid of overwatering them and here I haven't been giving them enough so it was a good thing I did this last night because they were parched! Drug Mart also has a nice grocery area and I bought a box of large pasta shells for stuffing since they are hard to find, but Drug Mart has them!

I went outside last evening to get the weekly free newpaper and my neighbor was out cleaning the inside of her car. I have not seen them all winter and she is due with her second child in three weeks. We talked a bit and I asked about the baby's room. It is a girl and the room is pink and gray. Perfect! I had made a quilt for her boy when he was born so I have to make one for Mikala! I knew I had some left over blocks in pink and gray. I was able to lay my hands on them and stuck them on the design wall.

There were also some pieces cut out for more blocks so I will sew them together and have a quilt top very quickly.

I am hoping to stay home like a hermit all weekend. I know it is Easter, but my family got together last weekend for my dad's b-day so ... I haven't had a weekend to do what I want to do for so long I just need to keep burning the incense and relax. I have a lot of cleaning to do so I will try to sprinkle that in with getting some sewing done.

The MQG meeting was well attended and we had a great time. My demo was well received and it spurred lots of questions, imput, and discusstion. Joanna demonstrated making improv pods which I forgot to take pictures of because I was so busy watching what she was doing!. The techniuque is in the book Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gering, but it was great to see it demonstrated. Thank you Joanna!

Here are pictures of most of the show and tell quilts. The first two, which are mine, and the next two will be going into a quilt exhibit at the local Cascade Quilt Guild annual quilt show next weekend. Joanna, who is a member of the Cascade, was looking for pieces to show the modern quilt movement. There were a couple more pieces she gathered at the meeting that I missed taking photos of. I will go to the show and post pictures. The rest of the pics are quilts in progress and completed projects. A nice variety of work!
