Finishing stuff, straightening up, and a project folder
It was a busy weekend trying to get stuff done. The last 10 thread beds got their snaps. After that was cleaning up. I couldn't mow because it was raining.
I spent my time Saturday morning mending. I fixed two pairs of pants and a hoodie. Then I decided I needed another pocket on that jacket that I got during Women In Construction week. I covered the monogram.
I decided to use Ultrasuede so I didn't have to turn under any edges and just topstitch it on. I did add a zipper so I secure what I usually keep in that pocket. Gosh that is a bad picture! You can't even see the zipper! LOL!!
The afternoon was spent working on sewing the back son smalls for stuffing. I am way behind on finishing my cross stitch. These are all ready for stuffing now. I did some laundry and cleaning up since it was still raining so I couldn't mow.
Sunday I took apart that desk extension and hauled it upstairs. I forgot to take a picture of it in place with the plants on it - I post one tomorrow. The top was the heaviest part and I could only go up one step at a time with it, but I got it done.
I decided to play around a bit and try to make a project folder. I did a little drawing and made a cut list. It is similar to a thread bed only bigger so figuring out the parts I needed was quick. For the insides I used a piece of iron-on Bosal foam stabilizer to give it more firmness. It finished at 11" x 12 1/2" when it is folded in half. I had debated what fabric to use and I thought this Sugar Skull fabric would look good.
Here is the inside. There are two zipper pockets, three other pockets, and a pen holder.
I needed a button for the closure, and it dawned on me that I had a sugar skull button - somewhere! I had bought a towel a couple of years ago at a craft fair, you know one of those towels you hang on your oven door. It had a poor quality sugar skull towel but the button was fabulous so I bought the towel for the button. I had to look around a bit to find the button and I did! It was perfect for this folder.
I have seen these project folders on Etsy and they cost around sixty dollars. The rain finally went away and it was sunny on Sunday so I finally got at least the front and the one side yard mowed. Round out the weekend with some more laundry and that was it.

I guess you are behind on fully finishing your stitcheries…..PA 2023!?!? Glad you found the perfect button for your folder 😃
Going up the stairs with something that heavy is hard. Going down you can sometimes slide it carefully on the steps. I used to tackle things like that. Maybe that's why my back is unhappy now, years later.
