Log cabin progress and what I found in those bins
Three more blocks are done. I used every bit of that ticking stripe that I could.
I dove into the bins and here is what I found. In this bin
I found these pieces. Good score!
In this bin
I found one long piece of this dark blue and white stripe
I found nothing in this bin
I did find a couple pieces of this blue and white stripe in a pile of pieces
I came across this little bit of fabric. I will sew the pieces together to get a big enough piece to use.
Then I happen to find a piece of dark blue and white striped fabric when I was looking for something else. The width of the stripes is slightly different than the long strip that I found in the bins. We will see how many blocks I can get made out of all these latest finds.
Months ago when I took a road trip to a quilt shop in Shilo, Ohio, that I had found out about, I bought a pair of 4 1/2" Kai scissors. I had taken them out of the package at the store, tried them out, and was sold. These things are sharp! I keep these by the sewing machine.
When I went to the retreat in April, there was one pair of the Kai 9" scissors. I debated if I should buy them and I did. I love these! Again extremely sharp! When I cut the fabric doesn't push or slide away from the blades. I keep these where I press and cut fabric.
I signed up for notification of sales on the Kai website and recently received a sale notification. 20% off so I bought a 4" pair. I also got free shipping and no sales tax so they were a really good deal!
So I now have all I need in the way of cutting instruments. These scissors are better than any other ones I have bought over my lifetime and yes, they are better than Ginghers in my opinion.
I also bought two scissor covers so if I travel with a pair I will keep them protected.
When I was taking the recycling out this morning I noticed some of the Shasta daisies are getting ready to bloom. This is a bit earlier than usual. Usually they don't bloom until around the 4th of July.

I agree that the Kai scissors are great. I only have the smallest ones and they live at my longarm, Sophie.
score!!!
I've always heard great things about Kai scissors but I don't have any...yet! The quilt is looking great.
That was definitely a good idea to do a deep dive into the scrap bins. You scored a lot of stripes.
I love the scissors that grip the fabric instead of pushing it away. I sold Kai scissors at my quilt store 1982-86. They have probably improved even more in all these years.
