I messed up and oops I did it again!
Last evening I decided to make another one of those wristlets. I decided to look at the pocket in the almost finished one
and discovered I messed up. No lining on one side! I am going to try to take it apart and fix it. It's going to be a bit of a pain to tear out the stitching since I stitched it twice to make sure it didn't fall apart - LOL!!! What a silly mistake.
I am almost done with the second one because if I am making one I might as well make two! The pocket is fully lined this time!
This was at the mail box today. Oops I did it again; bought more fabric!
I wasn't going to buy anymore fabric; I have plenty! BUT Keepsake Quilting was having a promotion for 25% off their clearance fabric. The clearance fabric was already at a great price so an extra 25% off was crazy. I thought I would just take a look and I found some good stuff! These are additional fabrics for some projects already planned. I ended up with 16.5 yards for $5.01 a yard! It is all good stuff that normally would be ten to eleven dollars a yard. I also ordered enough to get free shipping, because why not!
A woman at work saw the dragonfly fabric and wants me to make her a project bag out of it. She is very fair and will probably cover half of what all this fabric cost me.

Wristlet
The wristlet is all sewn together and I am happy the way it turned out. I still need to make the loop handle and the fabric tabs for the zippers. The flannel quilts are packed up and ready to deliver today. I was glad I found this bag left over from an event we had at work. it was the perfect size for the quilts.

Next project
I was asked by a friend if I could make one of these zippered wristlets for a friend of her's.
I got started on the wristlet last night. The first thing I needed to settle on is whether to use iron-on fleece or batting. I decided to go with the fleece. I marked it with a few lines and quilted it - that would be the fabric and just the fleece. Next, I added one of the zippers. After that was the fabric for the side pocket. I edge stitched that and trimmed it to the same size as the bottom pocket piece. In the picture I have the second zipper laid out with the lining fabric. I had to think a minute on how I was going to sew this together, but it finally dawned on me to sew it together like I was making one of those boxy pouches. Constructing the rest of this ought to go a bit faster now.
The contractor dumped a huge load of dirt in the neighbor's front yard. The contractor doesn't show up very often so this project is taking a while!
My California Poppies were putting on a show for me when I went to the mailbox. It has taken them some time, but they are finally filling out the flower bed.

10th finish for 2025 and a surprise package
Woohoo the zig zag quilt is done! It shrunk 2 inches both ways when I quilted it. It now measures 60.5" x 72" which is just right. I really love the buffalo check I used on the back. Wednesday I will be taking all three of the blue flannel quilts to the home office and let the lady that wanted two quilts pick which ones she wants if any of these are to her liking.
Friday I received a package which turned out to be an early birthday present! This was a wonderful surprise! In the package was a lovely note and in it she explained that I could finish this pieced skull anyway I wanted. She even sent along a yard of the background fabric! The skull is 40 x 58 1/2. Isn't it fabulous? I plan on leaving it on my design wall so I can enjoy looking at it.
Also in the package was a stand with Ukraine t-shirt and a mask she made in the Ukraine colors.
Two rubber chickens and some Let's go TACO stickers. This surprise was so sweet and it made my weekend!
Saturday was trick or treat here. We don't get many kids, but it was a beautiful evening so the neighbors and I sat in front of a fire I made in my portable fire pit and passed out candy to the ones that did show up. Dave put some music on and we had ourselves a little party.
On Sunday by mid-afternoon the dew was finally off the grass, so at halftime during the Browns Patriots game I mowed the front and one side. The grass was really long. Then I spent time doing laundry, dishes, and cooked.

Getting close to done
Everything to the left of the yellow measuring tape is quilted. I am close to having this done!
Here is the pile of leftover scraps and uncut pieces from the three blue flannel quilts. There is plenty to get one more quilt out of this pile.
I have plenty of sewing to do this weekend including finishing the zig zag quilt. Have a great weekend!

A bit more done
I didn't get as much quilting done last evening because I wanted to get to the grocery store and pick up a couple more pork loin roasts that were on sale. I also got a killer deal on some chicken breasts. Those are all in the freezer now. I am just about 50% done with the quilting. It went slower since I was working in the middle. The yardsticks show you about where I am. The area on the left is done.

Making progress on the zig zag and a box showed up
The quilting is coming along! I am now 41% done! Woohoo!
A new project showed up yesterday in the mail.
Yes, a box of t-shirts for a quilt. At least this one only has to be lap sized and she is not in a hurry. I did have this blue fabric in my stash that she liked for the back.

Zig zag progress, a shirt, radon readings, a snake, a buck, and rainbows - oh my!
It has been kind of crazy, but let's start out with some calm. I did get 20% of the zig zag quilt quilted last evening.
Yesterday at work I was given this year's shirt for our project. Buffalo check flannel!
I received my radon readings. It went from 2.9 to 7.5 over a 48 hour period. I was surprised how much it varied. The fellow is getting me a quote for a system. Code here is if it is over 4, then you have to install a mitigation system.
Yesterday afternoon there was a baby snake in the office. One of the guys said we had a few last fall too! The cold weather is causing them to find their way inside where it is warmer. Yuck!
I almost hit a small 4 point buck on my way to work. It was dark and he was standing in the street. I caught a glimpse of a shadow and slowed down then stopped. He finally moved out of the street and was running parallel thru people's yards. No pictures; it was too dark and it happened too fast. Then there was this double rainbow this morning! It was just starting to rain and I could see both ends of the rainbow. Pretty cool! You can just barely see the beginning and end of the second rainbow.
That was more than enough excitement for the last 18 hours!

A busy three days
I took Friday off to get some stuff done - meet with the radon company, furnace maintenance and a perm. I spent a lot of time cleaning house too. I worked on the zig zag flannel quilt and it is now ready to quilt. It is just slightly bigger than the other two blue flannel quilts. It measures 62 3/4 x 74".
I was sewing together the two strips of Buffalo check for the back and I didn't match up the checks right. That was dumb! It didn't take too long to rip out and resew.
I saw a fox for the first time in the back yard. He was quick so this was the best picture I was able to get and it's pretty bad!
I received the fabric and strapping I need for replacing the organ cover for the band. HomeSew was having a 60% of everything sale and I didn't realize until the last email I received from them that they are going out of business. I ended up having to buy a 100 yard roll of strapping, but at 60% off what the heck! I should have enough for lots of projects! I used a 10 yard roll on the first organ cover so I will have plenty for this new one!
Saturday I took my drum
and headed to the protest downtown. There were lots of people and characters! Dinosaurs, a unicorn, shark, chicken, cows, a character from South Park, Sponge Bob, Patrick the starfish, a frog, and a polar bear to name a few.
It was a peaceful protest that there was no trouble, but not peaceful because of all the horn honking and me beating my drum for 2 1/2 hours! We were making some noise! There were a couple drive-by agitators, but nothing that was an issue. Several people came up to me and thanked me for all my drum beating. I was tired; it was quite a workout!

Zig Zag progress
All the blocks are made for the zig zag flannel quilt.
Let's see how long it takes me to get them sewn together.

9th finish for 2025 and the zig zag started
I worked on hand stitching the binding at lunch yesterday and finished it up when I got home so the courthouse steps flannel quilt is done! Woohoo! It is the same size as the log cabin flannel quilt - the number 8 finish for 2025.
I got started on the next blue flannel quilt top which will be a zig zag.
The strips were already cut and I rearranged the layout a bit this morning.
