8 more blocks to go and a surprise in the garden

I rearranged the blocks to make the quilt 1 block wider and 1 block longer. I got six sewn last evening. I am almost out of the cheddar fabric which I think is actually Kona papaya. I will dig around and find something close in color. Here is what it looks like now
A year and a half ago a friend gave me some poppy seeds. I sprinkled them in one of my Lenten Rose beds because there was lots of open space. The poppies never came up and meanwhile the bed exploded with Lenten Rose babies last year and there are even more this year. Well, guess what showed up? Poppies! One burst into bloom yesterday and I had never seen a poppy like this. It is spectacular! I had to hold it because the wind was blowing.
There are more that are close to blooming. It is just so interesting that it took so long for them to sprout. The flower heads look like this.
Here are a bunch of California Poppies that have found a home in this bed. I never planted one seed. Two years ago I had marigolds in this area. Last year I threw down marigold seed, but only one little plant came up. There were a few poppies last year, but now they have taken over and are so pretty! They will continue to spread and will bloom until the first heavy frost.

so pretty!!! poppies spread from my neighbor's yard to the weed patch and they've been putting on a show - i wonder if the poppy seeds in the muffin mixes would grow? we don't add them to the batter cuz i don't like how they hide in my mouth, by i don't throw them away, either ... wouldn't hurt to try, right?

your blocks are gonna make an impressive quilt - really, really liking it.

The surprise blooms are the best. That shaggy one is a new one to me. I had to look them up. I had only seen single petal varieties before. Your orange ones are so pretty, and how nice that they are spreading and filling in an area.

Oh that pink frilly poppy is gorgeous! My plant swapping friend from church has those. I'll get seeds this fall. Woohoo on the California poppies. Glad the tote bags are done. I'm sure they will be a hit. Hope you find something close to that cheddar. I LOVE cheddar!!!
