Rail fence and road trip
I took a road trip yesterday to go get my glasses fixed, stop at the credit union and go to the bulk food store. The weather was challenging to say the least. I hurt all over today from holding on the wheel with both hands fighting a 20 mph wind with 39 mph gusts. A goal was to avoid semi trucks and thankfully there weren't too many on the road. I did see one swerve off to the right - he was in the slow lane- so I waited until he got her straightened up and sped by him. I needed some spices and nuts at the bulk food store in Sugarcreek. It was snowing lightly.
Just around the corner is a fabric store that carries lots of different things so I stopped there mostly for white quilting thread. I checked out the mark down shelves and found a few pieces that were $7.50 a yard.
I thought this bird fabric would make cute project bags and thread beds.
I then headed to Zinks in Berlin, Ohio to see what flannel they had. I was looking to get a bolt of white or off white for backing. As I drove west to Berlin, the snow got heavier and the road conditions got trickier. It was a quick stop and didn't find anything I wanted. The snow was coming down hard and I just wanted to head home. The parking lot was covered.
After I got out of the traffic jam in Berlin - yes, a traffic jam in near blizzard conditions mostly because of two poorly timed traffic lights - I finally got to my turn off 200 yards from Zinks. That took about 10 minutes! I wasn't going to drive 20 miles back to the interstate so I headed northeast on a state route. It is good road, just a bit hilly and curvy. The craziest thing was to see the people on bicycles! I don't know how they could stay on a bike in that wind! The roads were dicey thru Winesburg and Wilmont,
but better thru Brewster. It was snowing hard in Navarre, but that is where I turned on a more heavily traveled state route.
As I got north of Massillon, no snow!
It was smooth sailing with just light snow once I got closer to hone. My driveway when I got home. I have driven thru a lot worse winter weather, but I did just want to get home.
After getting something to eat I worked on sewing together three rows on the rail fence flannel top. I was pretty tired.
My hair appointment got moved up from 7:30 pm to 5:10 so I headed out the door again into the cold. With the wind chill it was 1 degree. When I got home I made a to do list, cooked some dinner, watched a little of the Falcon Rams game and went to bed. Let's see if I can put a dent in this list over the next few days.
