Final fabric choices and concrete
I received a final decision about the fabric for the 8 curved topped pouches. I matched the fabric up with zippers. I wanted to make sure I had zippers that would work.
Yesterday the guys did the first big deck pour. Over 500 cubic yards of concrete. It was interesting to see the bidwell in action. A bidwell is what they use to smooth out the concrete.
The guys had started at 3 a.m. and were just about done with the pour at noon. They still needed to apply some finishing product and clean up. I asked why did they start so early and it is so we are the only customer that the concrete company is servicing. That keeps the concrete trucks constantly flowing. It does cost extra to have concrete delivered in off hours.
Part of the project is to install sound wall. There are homes that are along the highway and this is what will be in their backyards. The tan color goes toward the highway and the pink is the backside.
This weekend I plan on getting a few more alteration projects done and then get back to the Harley quilt. If the rain stops and the yard dries out, the front yard will need to be mowed. Have a great weekend!

More fabric hunting, mowing and deer
I had to go dig in the stash again. The lady wanted three out of the coffee fabric, 3 scissors, and two flags. I only had enough fabric for one coffee, 2 scissors and one flag. Here are some other fabrics I came up with. I even had to dig thru my vintage fabric to find the fabric with a coffee cup and coffee grinder on it. I was tired so this was more like work. LOL!!
I had to get the backyard mowed. The weeds were 8-12" tall and the grass was about 6". I must have emptied the grass catcher 20 times! I still have a lot of trimming to do in the back, but at least the majority of it looks better. I saw that some of the coneflower plants were wilting with the heat we got yesterday, so after mowing I hauled out the hose and hooked it up.
Even though the gray clouds were rolling in and I heard thunder, I watered the coneflowers anyway. I just barely got started watering and the sky let loose.
I saw the first fawn of the season. It has to be a few days old since it was wandering off by itself although mom was keeping a close eye on it.
I did have to slam on the brakes on my way to work when a deer came running in front of me.

Digging thru the stash
I was so tired when I got home from work I just didn't have the energy to sew. I did go thru my stash and found some fabrics for a special order of curved topped pouches. I only need to make 8, but I wanted to give the lady a lot of fabrics to pick from.

Progress on alterations
Both pair of pants are hemmed
The lady had bought these two handmade purses/pouches, but she didn't like the straps. She wants them turned into wristlets.
I cut off one of the side loops and put a swivel hook on the other side.
I dug thru my scrap bin of Ultrasuede and found a big enough piece of yellow and white.
Here are the finished wristlets
The last item I have for her is a dress that needs hemmed and the armholes made a bit smaller. I will see her tomorrow so I would like to get the dress done tonight.

Lions, quilting and weeds - Oh my!
I am glad it is Monday so maybe I can rest a bit. It was a busy weekend! Friday I went and saw a middle school production of The Lion King. The kids did a good job. They must have needed more kids because there were a lot of little kids (2nd and 3rd graders) playing zebras and other animals. They were so cute. I had a crazy trip home - a speeding driver that almost crashed in one town, traffic backed up to get off at several exits in another town, and I ran over a possum. I couldn't slam on my brakes since there was a car right on my butt so the possum got run over. On top of all that I pulled a muscle on my left side and it hurt. It's is ok now.
Saturday was much quieter! I spent most of the day quilting and napping.
Sunday I decided I needed to get a start on the weeding. The bed next to the house wasn't too bad. Just some clover that needed pulled. Here is the before and after
The next bed was a real mess. Creeping Charley was taking it over. I pulled all of that and cut back a few of the Mugo pine branches. It now looks a lot better
The center bed is a real mess. I got started by pulling all the thistle before it flowers. I got a few weeds pulled until it was getting too hot. I had been at this for three hours and I had enough for the day. I had barely put a dent in the mess.
I then quilted more on the Harley quilt which is now 73% done. I circled the area that still needs quilted.
Throw in some laundry, making a pot of soup, and putting the lable on a baby quilt rounded out the weekend.
Tonight I will have to get after the alterations so I can hand them over to the lady on Wednesday when I see her.

More quilting and it's Friday!
I keep plugging away at quilting the Harley quilt. I got one more shirt quilted last evening so now I am 45% done with the quilting.
This picture gives you the overall look at what is quilted. Pins are still showing in the picture for the shirt I just quilted; I was too tired last evening to take a new picture. LOL!!
I have a lot on my to-do list this weekend. Besides mowing and cutting that tree up, I have all those sewing tasks for my friend at work and replacing the zipper in a hoodie for my nephew. Have a great weekend!

More quilting progress. Lunch for 80. The bush/tree question answered. Cornbread.
Two more shirts are quilted so now the quilt is 41% quilted.
Yesterday we had our annual fall protection training and lunch for the crew we have working on the bridge. The fire station next door came over for lunch and talked about their rescue procedures. The guys from the ODOT office which is next to us in the same office, also came. There was brisket, pulled pork, mac and cheese, green beans, slaw, bread, and cornbread along with beverages. Several of us were helping get everything ready. Then the cleanup happened and by 2:00 I had over 10,000 steps.
Earlier I had spent some time cleaning up the dock area. There was a bunch of leftover stuff from when our office was built out. I tossed that off the dock and dragged it to the dumpster. We needed the space for items. Since I do most of the receiving I was tired of dealing with the mess. So it is all swept and in good shape. This is what it looks like now. Yes, we have a big freezer for ice too!
It was a beautiful evening yesterday so I went out to the back to see if that was a limb or a tree that fell. I was a tree. I will have to add cutting that up on to my list of things to do.
I made a pan of cornbread for work this morning. One of the guys was looking for more cornbread as we were cleaning up from the luncheon, but the cornbread was all gone. So now the fellow can have a piece of this today. It smelled so good!
