6th finish for 2021

Yeah the Harley quilt is done! It finished about 84" x 94".

I am glad I took the time to match the binding to the shirts. Onward to finish a couple small UFOs.

Quilting done; binding underway

I got the last of the Harley quilt quilted - yeah! I got the binding on and have it hand sewn on one of the short sides. I decided to match as closely as possible the binding to the colored t-shirts. I had to dig for quite a while until I found solid colors that were a close match and I ended up having to piece some of the fabric together. For that dark green, I found a strip about 2" wide and 40" long. I sewed it together lengthwise to get a strip wide enough. I cut the binding at 3". It was the only piece of green that I could find that would work.  For the other shirt in this picture, I had to dig thru my hand dyed fabric to find a weird green/gray color.  It matches pretty good!

One little trick I do is when I sew on the binding I use a color in the bobbin that will stand out from the backing. This makes it easier when I hand stitch the binding on because I can see the stitching line where I need to fold over the binding. The color of the thread doesn't show since I run my needle right under the stitching line. If I would have used black, it would be so hard to see. Here you can see I used pink thread.  And yes, I just barely had enough width for the backing.  Part of the selvage is going to show, but that is just part of the story that this quilt will tell.

I did good today! I got four shirts quilted so I am now 81% done with the quilting. The four done today are outlined in green and everything quilted is outlined in yellow. I used seven bobbins to quilt those four shirts. There was a lot of outline detail stitching!

I made a crock pot of chili today and the house smells so good. 

Quilting, thread, and scones

I had an online meeting this morning for work. It highlighted important areas of the subcontract the company uses when hiring contractors for projects. At lunch today I made myself go to the local sewing center and get some 40 wt. light grey thread. I ran out and needed more to finish the Harley t-shirt quilt. I double masked and was the only customer in the store. They didn't have any King Tut, but they had Mettler which I like and works well in my machine. It was partly sunny out which helped mentally with the wind and cold. There were a few flakes that fell, but so far not that much snow has fallen here.

I did get three more t-shirts quilted. The one was small so I only jumped from 60% to 67% done.

This afternoon I made a batch of date and pecan scones with maple glaze. They tasted so good. I will have enough for a few days to have with my tea.

More than halfway quilted!

I am now well on the way to having the Harley quilt done! I am now at 60% quilted. I got three more shirts quilted which are circled in green.

I will have to run out and get some thread for the light gray shirt. I used up the 40wt. cotton quilting thread I had so I need to get some for that shirt. Having snow showers tonight and then rain later on tonight. Tomorrow high winds and sunshine Saturday so I will watch the weather and then venture out to the store for the thread. I will double check to make sure I don't need anything else before I head out so I can get all my errands done in one trip.

Another three shirts quilted

I now have the center column of t-shirts quilted and with one in the far right column I am now at 48% done with the quilting. Those three shirts are circled in green and the shirts below the yellow line are quilted.

Thank goodness I didn't get sore from all that shoveling, but I slept like a rock last night!

Lots going on

In the last 24 hours, I shoveled my driveway twice and the neighbor's once which was today. He had back surgery a couple months ago and can't shovel. He has helped me out with trimming trees so this was paying him back for his help. It did take the wind out of my sails a bit. I dropped off the purple t-shirt quilt and the woman was very happy with it. Whew! I had forgotten how much I didn't enjoy that drive everyday. I got a bit more quilted on the Harley quilt after I rested a bit. I got that pesky middle shirt quilted and the one above it. I am now 39% done with the quilting.
