Sampler progress

I got in a groove yesterday stitching a little before work, a little at lunchtime, after work and this morning.  It will be done in the next few days.  I need to decided what hand sewing project to work on next. I have a quilt that I want to hand quilt and of course the Xmas stocking cross stitch that I spent so much time searching for the pattern floss key. 

The other project I have been working on is filing all my recipes. I had piles of copies all over the place and it was time to get them sorted and filed so I could find them. I still come across them in different places that I have stuck them, but at least now I have the binders set up so it will be easy to file them.

More progress on the pink blocks

I alternated sewing the blocks into rows and riding my stationary bike last evening. I managed to get the blocks into rows so next will be sewing those rows together.  It is coming along!

I had to spend some time enjoying how pretty my California poppies looked last evening. I didn't plant these seeds; they had found there way here from some I had planted several years ago. Who knows how they ended up here -a b ird, the wind, off a garden tool?   The blooms only last one day, but they just keep blooming and new plants start  so I have had continuous blooms all summer.  The get full sun and don't require much water, but if I do water them they really reward me with a colorful show!

Blocks are made

I got all the blocks made so next I will be sewing this top together.

Here is the progress on the sampler. I circled the area in green that I have gotten done since I posted this last.

Saturday there were lots of deer visiting my backyard. There was one doe who had three fawn with her. They were smaller than fawn usually are this time of year so they must have been tiny when they were born.

I did a couple of hours of weeding and trimming, then mowed the front and side yards. The back hasn't grown much since we have not had any rain for a while. Laundry and household chores filled up the rest of my weekend.

Cutting scraps

I was tired last night, but I still managed to cut a few strips for the additional 17 blocks I need for the dark pink 16-patch top.

It was a beautiful evening and since I have one last zucchini growing I decided to give the plant a big drink of water. Maybe with the  decent trmperatures and the water I will be able to get this zucchini big enough to use. We hadn't had rain in a while.

I decided to water the plants out front too. The lavender is still blooming and bees were everywhere.

The marigolds are loaded with flowers and buds. I bet the water will help the buds open up.

I am glad it is Friday. I already have a list of things to do for the weekend. Saturday is forecasted to be nice and we might get rain on Sunday so if I am going to mow I had better do that on Saturday. At least the daytime temps are going to be warm. Have a great weekend!

Light Pink blocks all make

I dug thru my scraps this time looking for pink prints. I found lots of good stuff! Here are the seven blocks I needed to finish the light pink top. I could not find a scrap of that floral with the light green background so I just substituted another green.

Here is the top all ready to sew together.  It is a bit plain.  I could see it Ann-a-fied (I made that word up) which means Ann of Fret Not Yourself   http://fretnotyourself.blogspot.co.uk adding some of her fabulous appliqued flowers across this quilt top to jazz it up!

Here are the dark pink blocks that I had seperated from the light pink blocks. I need 17 more to make this a top.

While digging thru my scraps over the last few days I have come up with some darker pink solids. I will be cutting these up and using them for the darker pink blocks I need.   This won't be enough fabric, but I have some darker pink yardage in the stash.

It does take longer to make 16 patch blocks this way - that is, using scraps and it does make quite a mess. I iam just glad that I have my bins of scraps to use

Progress on the next pink baby quilt top

I was looking around in the fabric storage room and found another piece of pink yardage. I cut some strips out of it and was onto making some blocks.

I got seven blocks made last night so here is how the quilt top looks right now.

I was digging in my scrap bins and came across some dotted fabric. I had just enough to make this block. I am definetly going to dig around more tsee what else I can find.

My sister texted me yesterday that Eddie Van Halen had passed away. So sad. He was a guitar master. I always loved the Hot For Teacher video when he strutted down those tables rippin' on the guitar.  RIP Eddie.

What's next

I decided I didn't like this mix of blocks so I pulled off the dark pink blocks.

Here are the 16 remaining blocks.

I had to go digging to find some solid pinks that would work to make 14 blocks. Here is the only yardage I had.

I then went digging in my bin of solid scraps and found a few pieces of pink that will work. The center two strips are from the yardage.

I still have plenty of print strips left.

Here is the pile of 13 darker pink blocks. I have some darker pink solids and make the 17 blocks I need for another quilt.
