Sorting what is left

I ended up using my big table to sort out the rest of the pieces left over from the 16 patch quilt. Here are the pairs

and the pairs, singles and 12 patch blocks up on the design wall. I added one more 12 patch

Here are the pieces left. I am going to go thru these and sort out any parts I can use and the rest will go into my scrap bins.

When I got home from work last evening I saw that the Shasta daisies that I had transplanted were wilting. Apparently the rain we got Tuesday night was not enough. Before I took this picture I got the hose out and watered them.

I went back out an hour and a half later and watered them again. Already they were perking up. They are looking much better this morning between me watering and Mother Nature watering a bit last night.

I spent part of my evening loading this file cabinet in my car. I am taking this to my boss today out at the job site so she has someplace to keep paperwork.

When I was out at the job site yesterday I took a couple pictures. These are the PACU area which is where they take a person right after surgery. This area is almost done.

Another area we are working is Central Sterile. This is where the clean big things like carts. The electricians and data guys are still working in this area and there is more board that needs installed.

There is one more area on a different floor we are working in too. The wall board finishers are almost done and the painters will be starting soon. This area is more of the Radiology department. there will be 2 Ultrasound rooms, 2 Nuclear Camera Room and staff and administration space.

I am taking a day of vacation tomorrow. Yeah a three day weekend!

Progress on the next baby quilt

I had to go get my hair cut after work so most of my evening was gone. Traffic was awful coming home. I only managed to have enough time to sew together one row of pieces. Look how much it shrank! This row is only 36" wide.

I decided I will be adding two more strips so the width would be 41". I only had time to stick them on the design wall and add to the other rows also.

I will have to try and get in a little sewing before I have to go out and mow tonight. The back yard is looking pretty bad.

I saw a group of six yellow finches at work this morning. Here are two sitting in the tree. I am taking this picture thru a tinted window and the tree is about 25 - 30 feet away. They were cute to watch, but they didn't hang around for very long.

Using up pieces and parts

Since it was raining, I stayed inside and played around with the leftover bits I had from the 16 patch quilt.

I started matching up like pieces to see what I had. Mostly I had just two pieces alike so I started laying them out for a baby quilt. Here is the first top ready for sewing.

I have lots more paired up on the other half of the design wall. If I had three matching pieces I started laying them out for another baby quilt. Those 9 patch blocks are surrounded by the pairs. I need more design wall! LOL!!

Here are the pieces I still have to pair up.

I was thinking I would have enough of these left over bits for 4 or 5 quilts including the strips hanging on another design wall. I need to cut those Kona solids I bought about a month ago, pair them up with these prints, and slice them into units. I may end up with more than 5 baby quilts from all of this!

I got a real surprise when I got home from work. First thing I do is check out my plants. That pot I showed yesterday with two squash

well I found four plants coming up!

And then I found a sprouted squash in the pot with the dianthus seeds! Too funny! I have no idea how that happened!

Tops sewn, plants a growin', music rockin'

I got the two baby quilts tops sewn together between everything that was going on this weekend. The teal top is 35.5" x 48"

The other top turned out 36" X 44"

Friday evening I was out mowing the grass when a neighbor came over and asked if I had a chain saw. I let him borrow my little electric chain saw and he dumped the brush in the woods behind my house. He then said that since we had the chain saw out he would get on the roof of my garage and cut back the neighbor's trees that were hanging close to my garage. The trees were loaded with vines which made them a bit harder to trim. I was awfully tired at this point, but I was grateful for the help. I climb up on the roof two years ago and cut what I could sitting down and using a pair of loppers. A good job done! Here is the before and after.

I also took the liberty to track the source of the vines and cut them so they will no longer grow any further into the trees.

Saturday morning I worked in the yard for three hours - transplanting, edging the front yard, and pulling weeds. I got the Shasta daisies transplanted and the front bed is looking better. The transplanted daisies were looking a bit droopy so I watered them a lot. They will bounce back.

The daisies looked better this morning as I gave them a quick glance as I headed to work. We are forecasted to get some rain which would be good for them.

My squash plants are continuing to do well. I need to get the planting bed ready; I think they could go into the bed this weekend.

The bok choy is doing well.

and I have three more squash plants breaking ground!

After I finally called it quit after three hours. I needed to rest a bit and get ready to head over to my brother's house for a show that evening. The band played in Kent. The load in and out were easy and the weather was nice! We had a good crowd and I sold more merchandise this year than I did last year at this event.

Lastly I had this fellow that visited me. He was hard to see because I was the same color as the dirt!

So close

I worked on the first charm pack baby quilt top and I almost got it sewn together. I was so close! I found it easier to sew it together by sewing four patch blocks then sewing them to each other in rows.

I surveyed my plants to see if they survived the near drowning and they did! My first squash plants look great

and the pots where I had started seeds - well, to my surprise the Bok Choy has sprouted! Look at all those little plants!

The other pots have more squash and dianthus, and I didn't see anything yet. It has only been four days since I planted them after all. I placed the pots closer to the garage so they are under the soffit for a little more protection.

The Shasta daisies are so close to bursting open. Look at all those buds!

My coneflowers are getting ready to bloom too. There was a couple buds that I could see what color the flowers are going to be. With sun and partly cloudy weather for the next three days I think I will be some blooming going on!

My plans for the weekend are to do as much yardwork as I can and get both baby quilt tops sewn together. Have a great weekend!

Another top ready

I finished up cutting the teal squares for the charm square baby quilt.

I took down those squares from those two charm packs that were not work and put up these fabrics from another pack.

This pack was a mix of textured fabrics

and some solids

To fill in the blank spaces I found enough of this polka dot fabric to cut squares

So this top is now ready for sewing which will be on the agenda tonight since I have no more room on the design wall to layout another quilt.

It poured rained yesterday around 9:30 to 10 and then it poured again about 3. The rain was coming down so hard I could hardly see at times to drive. I am just glad I wasn't on an interstate. The roads were flooding and I had to slow down to make my way thru the water. Once I pulled up to the house I thought about my plants and seeds. Poor things were drowning!

I dumped the standing water out then propped them up to help drain the water out.

Now it is just a matter of time to see what survives. The good thing is I won't need to water them for a while! LOL!!! Someone at work told me we are forecasted to get no more rain until Sunday. It needs to dry out so I can mow my grass. The Weather Channel says we got .49" but I know we got more than that.
