Linen piece almost done and what a race!

I only have 9 patches left to quilt on the linen piece. I could have gotten it done if I hadn't spent 3 1/2 cleaning up the garage on Saturday. I was going thru boxes and getting rid of stuff. Much of the stuff on the shelves are boxes of baseball cards and other misc items that belong to my son. I found a few more items for the garage sale that my neighbor is going to have this spring. I will be glad to get rid of this stuff and have the open space.
Here is the linen piece

And here is the back

Sunday was Paris Roubaix which is a one day race - 180 mile with 32 miles over cobblestone paths and a finish in the Vela drone. Here is the crash that made a gap between the riders. Can you see the rider on the right side headed to the floor?

The Easter bunny was at the race

Here is where the race ends at the Vela drone

Here is Tom Boonen (another one of my favorite riders) at the end of the race on the Vela drone. This is the fourth time he has won this race.

His prize? Well he gets a trophy with a cobblestone! The thing weights like 30 pounds! The third place rider from BMC in the red and black kit just had to touch Tom's trophy. Check out those legs on Tom!

The easter bunny also visited me. He was sitting in my front yard late yesterday afternoon and posed for me.

A fun Thrusday evening

I wanted to go to JoAnn's corporate headquarters in Hudson, Ohio to meet Denyse Schmidt so I called my sister-in-law to see if she wanted to go. She lives on the way to Hudson. It ended up my brother, my sister-in-law, and their son, Michael, all went. First we stopped and had some dinner at a Mexican resturant, and then we headed up to JoAnn's. Here is Denyse holding a mounted piece I gave her.

She was very nice and I got to talk to her awhile. She said several quilters from the Akron MQG had stopped in so I bet that will be a hot topic at the meeting on April 25. At that meeting the topic is favorite quilt books so I can imagine people will bring their autographed copies of her new book to share. Four of the quilts from the new book were there, tobacco leaf, snake trail, shoeman's puzzle, and crazy star. I don't know that I should post pictures from the book, so I won't.

After I was done at JoAnn's we headed up to the middle school in Hudson where my sister-in-law is a teacher. She needed to orgainze some stuff in her room. She had left early because her son was in the school talent show and she wanted to see him perform. Yes, this is my nephew, Michael, that is the guitar player. Michael goes to school in Cuyhoga Falls which is about 10 miles from Hudson. Here is a picture of her room

Once we helped her do what she needed to get done, she took me over to see the new athletic field. There was someone in town that passed away and left $4,000,000.00 to the school to put in a new field for the middle school. This field was gorgeous!! There are high schools that don't have a field half this nice! Artifical turf, a brick and wrought iron fence surrounding the field, and a coach's box or whatever you call those building that they can put a camera in to film a game or where someone could broadcast - I cannot remember what you call them.

After the tour we headed back to their house. When they walked me out to my car my brother noticed that one of my tires was low. He had me pull the car into the driveway and put are in all my tires. I finally headed home at 8:30. To say the least no sewing was accomplished.

I hope we get out of work early today so I can get my weekend projects started. I want to continue to work on the linen piece and maybe pin baste a few baby quilt together.

Have a wonderful Easter!

Mowing, laundry, and quilting OH MY!

No, it is not that exciting, but I did mow last night and did some laundry. While mowing I found this sweet little nest on the ground. It was in a tree that the finches nest in a lot, but I don't know if this is a finch nest. There were no eggs.

I love these white daffodils

My Hellibros (lenten roses) are going gangbusters!

My cone flower seeds are sprouting nicely.

I did get a little quilting done on the linen piece.

I can't believe it is Thrusday already! This week is flying by!

Blocks, mini-T quilt, duck, linen piece, MQA

Lots to report today so let us get started.

The bowtie and 9 patch vintage blocks are going to Charlene S. She said she would give them a good home. Thanks Charlene!

Here is the mini T-quilt using the paper pieced block. I have no idea why on earth I made so many blocks! This piece is 12 1/2" x 16 3/4" an just sits in a closet. Maybe I should call it a mug rug and use it. It is hand quilted and I made it in 2001.

Between the janitor and I, we figured out the local skunk destroyed the duck nest. Oh well, she has time to start over and find a safer place to raise her brood.

I have all the blue fabric in the linen piece quilted. Yes, I have no fear! None of this starting in the middle and working my way out!

I did a search the other day on the Modern Quilt Guild site and low and behold someone started a group in Akron, Ohio! Yeah! It must have just started because there was not much history on their web page. It looked like they have had only one meeting. The next meeting is April 25 and yours truly will be attending.

More blocks I found

Before I get into the blocks I found, I did pick up this shoe storage unit for $10.00. On-line I saw prices from $28.00 on up so I guess I got a good deal!

I put it together last night while I was watching the Tour of the Basque Country bicycle race that I had taped. Now my shoes are corralled and not all over the place where I seem to trip over them all the time.

Here are more blocks I found when cleaning out just one storage container.
Here are 42 hand pieced bow tie blocks that vary in size - 5 1/2" x 6" , 6' x6". I will never do anything with these. I think I must have gotten them in a box of sewing stuff at an auction. Anyone interested in them? I would be willing to let them go to a good home for the postage.

Here are 25 hand pieced 9 path blocks. They again vary in size, but are around 7' x 8, 7 1/2" x 8 etc. Same deal as above.

Here are some blocks that are leftover from the family Xmas quilt I made several years ago. The trimmed ones are 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". There are 20 all together.

Here are 17 3" x 3" paper pieced blocks. I love the colors, but I hate ripping off the paper. I made these years ago and did make a mini quilt of of these. I should have taken a picture of it - I will post that tomorrow. Ripping the paper off would be a good job to do while watching tv I guess.

Then there is this mass of odd and ends single blocks. I made a quilt years ago (another family Xmas quilt) out of my Mom's orphan blocks. They were just as varied as these. It turned out pretty good so that is what I may do with these. It is funny how I can look at these and remember the quilts some of them were in.

One of the guys found this next to the sidewalk this morning. Yes, it is a duck egg. Looks like someone had some breakfast. I wish I would see momma leave so I could look and see if there are any eggs left in the nest. If this keeps happening, maybe she will move her next to a different location next time.

This weekend's accomplishments

Saturday I was just plain tired. I don't know why. It was hard to get much done although I forced myself to finish piecing the linen piece. It is now pin basted and I started quilting it. It is good to have a machine quilting thread stash because I found all the colors I needed for this piece in my stash. I was concerned not having any light blue, but there were two spools just waiting to be used in this!

I am still going though containers of stuff from my fabric storage room and Peg's bedroom redecorating projects. Here are some of goodies(?) I found:
I had made this green block party quilt

Here is some leftover pieces. I already sewed together the top and bottom rows before I thought to take a picture.

I sewed together the blocks in the middle. I will add Kona snow strips and a border and I will have another baby quilt for my stash.

Here are some blocks that were leftover from a quilt I gave to Janet Jackson. I will have to make a few more blocks from all the homespuns I still have and this will be a cute boy baby quilt.

I will continue this post of the things I found in just the first container tomorrow.

I finally got the majority of the grass out of my flower bed. I still have a lot more work to do to get it in good shape, but after 2 hours of digging I was tired last night. Hope you had a great weekend!

Still working on the linen piece

I sewed together the two halfs and the right side unit is assembled. I have been so tired that I have not made much progress. We had a bid opening this week - I hate bid openings - and all I have done for eight hours a day is push paperwork and answer the stupid phone.

I don't have anything on the calendar this weekend! I am not going anywhere or talk to anybody! I am going to hermit and hide! I don't have any particular plans of what I am going to work on this weekend so Monday's post will be a suprise to you and me. Have a great weekend!
