Moving forward

I made a little more progress on the Garmin piece.


I spent most of my evening in the kitchen last night doing dishes, making stuffed shell and elderberry syrup. The shells are for my lunches and I am taking a pan of them down to my son's for dinner tonight if the weather stays rainy. He works at a golf course and since it has been rainy and cold, there should not be many if any golfer that show up today. The greens are going to be soaked and they wouldn't want golfers on them anyway. That means he will get home early so I can go visit and take him dinner.


I also made some elderberry and honey syrup that is suppose to keep you from getting sick. I found the information on brown robin's blog. I need to ask her a couple of questions though. I didn't see in the instructions if you were suppose to keep the lid on the pan when you simmer the berries. I lost quite a bit of water thru evaporation and my syrup's yeild thus was lower. It tastes like a blueberry flavored honey.

The weekend is going to be a busy one. Of course like I stated above I am heading to my son's for dinner tonight if everything works out weather wise, then Sunday I am suppose to go to the art museum with my brother, his wife and my nephew to see the "Who Shot Rock n' Roll" exhibit. Other than that I will be working on my pieces for the exhibit and I have a bunch of alterations to do. I should throw in a little laundry and house cleaning somewhere! Have a great weekend.

The crazy train has left - at least for now

I finally got a little quilting done it felt great! I did spend some time cleaning up the sewing room from the TV installation Tuesday night - it was quite a mess. It was nice and quiet last evening with only one phone call.

Today at work I will be straightening out file boxes to put into the new storage room we are using. The office I work in is attached to a huge building that the school district uses as swing space for the elementary schools when they buildings are being torn down and rebuilt. The building can hold two elementary schools. Our new storage room is in the basement. To get there I have to go down a long hallway with my noisy cart (one box at a time because it is a really cheap cart) then to the elevator down to the basement, and then down another hallway. At least I am getting some exercise out of it! Moving all the file boxes is going to take 4 - 8 weeks depending on how much time I have to work on them between other duties.

There is a bomb threat in downtown Akron this morning - two backpacks and another package. So far nothing bad has happened - which is great, but I think it is just a diversion by some thugs. We'll see how the rest of the day goes. I am located about 1 1/5 miles from where the incident is happening. Hopefully the police can get it cleared up before rush hour.

Still in crazytown

After work I just wanted to go home, watch Ricky on Oprah and get some sewing done. That's is not what happened. I was watching Oprah and the screen on the TV went green and wavy. I thought I would turn it off and turn it back on, but when I turned it off I heard a crack and then there was a nasty smell. I unplugged the TV and it was toast. My 1995 Zenith died. I called my brother and told him I had no idea what to buy - TV have change a lot from 1995 and my Zenith was a tube TV. He volunteered to go with me so we headed to Best Buy. He told me what I needed, so I paid for it and he installed it. Thank goodness he installed it! I would have never figured it out! So by the time I took him back home it was 9 p.m. Lets just say no sewing happened. There are no pictures because I forgot my camera at work.
One good part is that by the time I get my credit card bill for the TV, I will have had three paychecks. So I will redo my budget for the next three paychecks and paying for the new TV won't hurt too bad. See there is still sunshine in crazytown!

Then this morning I get to work and found that I forgot my toast I had made for my breakfast. I think I am losing my mind! At least I have some other food so I won't go hungry until lunch. So now I have lost one more day of working on my show for the library. I am going to try again tonight to get something done if it is the last thing I do!

Atlanta Thread and Supply had a sale on thread so here is what I bought. I needed to add to my stash especially some colors for clothing alterations.

Welcome to crazyville!

I went to my son's place of work after work last night. It takes about 20 minutes to get there. I dropped of some stuff and visited for a while - he wasn't busy - he works at a golf course. I stopped an picked up my collage pictures, got gas and finally was back at the house about 6:30. By the time I got something to eat, it was just too late to start anything. I was tired. Here is my list for today. I feel like I live in crazyville with running and taking care of my brother's house and mail, running to my son's, being slammed at work, and trying to find time to pay my own bills and sew! I know I am not alone - I know many of you feel that same way.



Walgreen's is having a 50% off sales on prints this week so I got these colage prints made of my art quilts to pass out at the library exhibit. I don't know anything about editing or croping so I know these could look better, but with the gray background I don't think they look too bad. I only had 10 made so that I could see how they looked so now I need to order more.


Here is a picture of four more quilt tops I sewed together this past weekend. They will make fun baby quilts.


To celebrate Ricky Martin appearing on Oprah today I am posting a picture of a picture (I did not have a digital camera in 2000) of the quilt I made for Ricky. I made sure it was long enough since he is 6'+. I am taping the show so I will watch it when I get home from work.


Onward I go!

Productive weekend

I tried not to goof off this weekend. I went to get my sticker for the car and while I was waiting I got a call from the lady that cuts my hair wondering where I was. Shoot! I forgot my appointment. I was almost halfway to the salon, so she said she wasn't busy so I busted tail. I got back home about 11 and got to work.

I put together this zig zag quilt. I wanted to really show off the fabrics so I cut the strips at 6" wide. It turned out a little bigger than what I wanted, but then again I just started sewing and let the size turn out to whatever it would be. I may put a border on this to make it more of a twin size. My design wall is made of 4' x 8' sheets of insulation board so you get an idea of what size it turned out.


I have had this piece sewn together for awhile. I trimmed and pin basted it, so now it is ready for the quilting. I want to get this one done for my exhibit.


I got the binding machine sewn on this piece that will be going in my exhibit. The hand stitching will take me about an hour, but I am glad to be this far.


Then I finally put the binding on this piece. I made a couple of these several years ago, but I never got around to finishing this one. I still need to hand stitch the binding on. I don't remember why I made several of these except my sister wanted some for the fire department thus explains the fabric I used on the back. If anyone is interested, I will sell it and put the money in the car pot.



I am hanging my show over Thanksgiving, so I have twenty-five days to get ready. I need to make a list.

TGIF

I was able to get a bunch of strips cut out a few day ago so I now have about 9 baby quilt tops to sew together. I would love to get as many as possible done this weekend. I have no other plans for the weekend except to get the stickers for my car. Have a great weekend!

Getting ready for my exhibit

I am now in the process of getting my art quilts ready to exhibit at the local library branch. I will be doing the installation over Thanksgiving and the Meet the Artist reception will be Dec. 11. I have this piece that needs its binding. I spent way too much time last night looking for the binding which I already had cut, but I could not find it. I have more of my hand dyed fabric so I will just cut more strips for the binding. I just know as soon as I do that I will find the other strips!


So far there are two items written on my hand - rain pants and e-check. I have a pair of rain pants of my son's that needs repaired. He is going to a football game at South Bend so he may need them. I will be giving him a call today, probably be fixing them tonight, and delivering them to him tomorrow. I need to get the car e-checked (don't even get me started at what a waste this is!!!) so I can get my new sticker for my car.

I am sure something else will pop into my head and I will put it on the list.
