Borders are sewn and shopping

The borders are now sewn into place and the corners mitered. I was happy that it went smoothly. I had to press the borders all the way around the quilt, take out any safety pins, and then pin the border with my safety pins. It is now ready for me to do some stitch in the ditch.
I searched thru my stash of thread and found a matching turquoise blue and a darker blue for the ditch stitching. I don't plan on stitching each row; I think that might make the border to stiff. I did find a spool of green that matched the back for the bobbin thread. I wound the entire spool and I think it will be enough. The lady that made this quilt used green on the back and invisible thread on the front.
I was sitting at work thinking whether I have enough black Kona for the binding. I had used black Kona for the Harley quilt, but I just couldn't remember what I had on hand so I did a little shopping just in case I didn't have enough black on hand. I bought three yards of Kona black which will make a lot of binding and then bought a few more fabrics that were on sale. When I got home I looked at what black I had and found enough of one color for binding the quilt. I was going to need to stock up anyway.
I am going to have to fuss around with the binding a bit to try and reduce the wavey edges. The borders are wavey in two ways: 1. it is like there is too much fabric that runs the perimeter of the quilt and 2. the rows of stripes did not stay perfectly straight so the outside edge of the quilt wouldn't be straight if I followed the outside edge of the fabric. I will make it work.

  1. i can't tell you how many times i had the kit for Moonglow/Jinny Beyer in my cart at different shops - i think it's beautiful but it's not my first choice of colors (for me me), and i read lottsa negative comments about the kit ... but every time i see one, i tell myself "coulda shoulda woulda" cuz it just glows, doesn't it?!?
