Chevron quilt mania!

p. you are a no reply blogger so to answer your question - yes, I am in NE Ohio and we only get a large dump of snow every 4 or 5 years. Mostly we will get a dusting to 3 or 4" in one snowfall. Up until Sunday/Monday, we had only received a trace of snow and there was no snow on the ground when this storm came thru. I was so busy yesterday I forgot to post! When my friend was over on Saturday I had her dig thru the pile of pieces for chevron scrap quilts and design a quilt. I got it pin basted and partially quilted. The green circled area is what is quilted.

I had two very small partial cones of two slightly different variegated threads that I used on other projects and was graciously sent to me by Vicki of Colorways by Vicki Welsh. I decided that this quilt had so many different colors in it that the two different colorways wouldn't show and I could use up that thread. The one cone had more yellow, whereas this cone has the same colors except for the yellow.

You can see by the picture that you have to look really hard to see the difference in the threads.

I will go thru my pile of 3" scrap strips and put on a scrappy binding.

I did get the stitching done on this small. Maybe this weekend I can get it fully finished. I didn't measure it, but it is around 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". This is the piece I was working on while sitting outside waiting on my new tires to be mounted.

I haven't had much time to cross stitch, but I did get this piece back out and have worked on it yesterday and today. I has been months since I worked on this; I was busy with Xmas sewing so it was set aside. Here is where I am right now and the picture of the finished piece for reference.

A friend has a friend that is downsizing her jelly rolls, charm packs, and layer cakes. She had pictures so I looked thru them and saw a layer cake of a fabric line I really like; I usually don't buy fabric collections, but this one I loved. It is called Ebb and Flow.  I made a baby quilt a couple years ago out of it and I wanted to make several more but the fabric is several years old. I bought the one layer cake the lady had and it arrived last night.

I have received several questions about the chevron quilts so I will post more detail on how I put one of these together. I guess if anyone is interested we can have a bit of a sew along! To start out you will need to cut your pieces. For the chevron scrap quilt I went with 4 1/2" x 16 1/2" pieces. I laid out 11 rows for this quilt. Those green quilts I recently finish I cut the pieces 4" x 16.5". The reason why I made the strips narrower was then I could get eight pieces out of a half yard of fabric which was enough for two quilts in the layout I was doing. In using 4" strips I needed 12 rows of pieces. Here is what the first row looks like. I put a line to make it easier to see where the seams will be.

You can layout the fabrics in so many different ways. Here are examples of chevron quilts I made in the past. These had 12 rows. You can really play with the layout!
