8th, 9th, 10th and 11th finishes for 2012

Yes, I had a banner weekend finally getting four baby quilts done. They are 36" x 44". I crossed them off my May 17th list I posted. Yeah!

Two of these quilts are earmarked for babies, so that gives me two to add to my stash. Now I need to make some baby girl quilts to add to the stash. Here they are all bundled and ready for delivery.

Baily came over Saturday for a binding lesson. Here is the beautiful orange and white quilt that she machine quilted and needed binding.

and the back

Pressing the binding for handstitching. Baily is a great student and by the fourth corner she had the technique down. I told her I was kicking the baby bird out of the nest! Of course, I also said if she has any problems she can always ask. She showed me how she did her handstitching for binding and I was impressed. I don't know that I would have the patience for the way she does it. You can't even see her stitches - I can't wait to see the finished quilt at Wednesday's MQG meeting.

While we were working on the binding I heard the blimp. I ran outside and took a couple of pictures. For people who grew up in Akron it is no big deal seeing the blimp, but I still think it is pretty cool when I see it fly thru the neighborhood.

I finished the above quilts on Sunday morning and decided to start quilting the low volume zig zag quilt. Well, I ended up getting it finished while I watched the last stage of the Tour of California and it is now ready for binding. I am using a piece of fabric for the binding that I bought the first weekend of May. So out of the 69 yards I bought that weekend I used 1/2 yard. Don't laugh - it's a start!

Here is a couple of pictures from the Tour of California. Peter Segan won 5 out of the 8 stages - that would be every sprint finish! Unreal! Look a the big bottle of wine he won for stage 8.

  1. Wow, you had a productive weekend! That is a good size for baby quilts. I need to build up my stash of them too this summer.

  2. Great finishes! For some reason i tend to think in complicated designs. This year I am trying to think simpler more modern designs. I love all of yours

And I saw some of the race. I would never have stopped at that channel had I not known you! LOL.
