Almost done

The quilt should be done, but I was incredibly tired on Saturday so I didn't get much done. I don't know if it was from the flu shot, but every time I sat down I fell asleep. I did finally get the quilting done and the binding attached. I couldn't find the original piece of fabric I had saved all those years ago because I wanted the binding to match the centers. I found a piece that was very close in color and now have one and one half sides to do the hand stitching. The fabric is very easy to push a needle thru so the stitching is going fast. I brought the quilt to work on at lunch in case I can't walk because of rain. It will be done tonight so it will be an October finish!

Busy evening

I had a very busy evening. I replaced the zipper in my hoodie so I could wear it to work today. This job has only needed done for about 5 months and it only took me a half hour. Geeze!

I baked some pecan pie mini muffins to take to work today for our big Halloween party. While they were baking, I got the dishes done.

Then it was on to getting my active minutes in on the bike, a load of laundry, and quilting a bit. I forgot to measure what I got done, but I did run thru three bobbins. At work we were asked to wear a costume for the big Halloween party and contest.  I'm not much into that, but I did wear my AC/DC hoodie and my devil horns. How often so you get to wear your devil horns to work? LOL!!

Getting closer!

I got about an hour of quilting in last night. I decided to measure the area I had left to quilt and got a big suprise! I am farther along than I thought! I am now 83% done with the quilting or 61.8 square feet done out of 75! Somehow my measuring got off.   I circled the area I quilted last night

In the mail yesterday I received this book all about feedsacks. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but there are 544 pages of text and pictures to enjoy! This book was put out by Uppercase and the woman that owns the company has published a number of these encyclopedia like books each focusing on one subject.  She also publishes a monthly magazine and a kids magazine.

Better than nothing

I only managed to get a little bit done on the log cabin quilt last night. I am now 73% done - posted 72% Tuesday.

Had to spend most of my evening doing this: gas up the car, stop at the drug store, haul the garbage and recycle bins out to the curb after making a quick trip around the house to gather stuff up, then spent almost 30 minutes on the stationary bike to get my active minutes for the day.

It's raining today so I don't know if I am going to be able to walk at lunch. If I can't that means I will have to ride the bike a lot longer tonight which will cut into the quilting time.  I have to go back to the drug store since the pharmacy was closed yesterday.  The pharmacist was giving someone a covid shot and then accidently stuck herself with the needle.   They only had the one pharmacist, so they had to shut things down and she had to go get checked out. Friday we are having a Halloween party, and everyone is suppose to bring something. Looks like I will be baking something Thursday after work instead of quilting. Geeze!

Thanks to all of you for your encouragement about getting the log cabin quilt finished. I sat down to quilt on it last night and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to work on it after being totally sick of quilting on it. I got another 451 square inches quilted so now I am 72% done with the quilting for a total of 54 square feet out of 75 square feet.

So here is the plan. I may or may not get the border quilted.

Then this is what is left for Friday.

It took me about 1 1/2 hours to quilt those four blocks plus the border. Tonight, I have an errand after work and a few chores to do when I get home plus, I will probably have to ride the stationary bike to get my active minutes done for the day. All those items will cut into my quilting time so I might not get Tuesday's section done. It has been hard to walk at lunch time to get some of those active minutes because for me it has been so hot. Yes, 65 with full sun is too hot for me. If I don't walk as much as lunch that means I have more time spend on the stationary bike in the evening.

Still working on the log cabin quilt

My post on Friday morning stated I was 40% done with the quilting which was 30 SF. I now am 68% done with the quilting which is 50.78 square feet. Yes, I quilted a lot this weekend! By the end of Sunday, I was so tired of quilting this quilt. If I can keep the momentum going, I think there is a possibility I could get this quilt done by the 31st of October. I will have to really focus if that is to happen.

TGIF

I am so glad it is Friday. Last evening I got some quilting done. The log cabin quilt is now 40% quilted which equals to 30 square feet.

My plans for the weekend are to quilt a lot on the log cabin quilt, finish sanding that table, and spending some time puttering around the yard. There are only a few nice weekends left so if there is something I need to get done outside, I had better get to it! Have a great weekend!

Better than nothing

I didn't get much more quilted. I couldn't walk at lunch yesterday with the rain and blowing wind so I had to make up for that when I came home. I first did some dishes and somewhat cleaned up the kitchen then I spent a considerable amount of time on the stationary bike. I didn't bother to even figure out my percentage or square footage complete since I got so little done. Here is what I did get quilted.

Turned the corner

It always feels good when I get to a corner, get it quilted, and start in another direction. I am now 36% done with the quilting which equates to about 27 square feet. I can't believe next week is the last week in October! I need to spend some serious time quilting this weekend if I plan on having this quilt done by the end of the month. I started quilting this on October 3rd or 4th and so only being 36% done after two weeks doesn't bode well for the possibility of getting this done by the end of the month. After all, the binding will take a day to do. I will give it my best shot!

Quilt progress, gifted smalls, and Friday's road trip

I am now 34% done with the quilting or 25.3 square feet done. I am almost to the corner!

I made two smalls to gift to a reader who has sent me fabric for tote bags and two cross stitch charts. I have sent her a couple of my project bags and by request, a small. I didn't think one was enough, so I made two. Cherie, also sent me a plaid cotton fabric that I used on the back of that vintage rail fence quilt top I recently finished. She got home from her trip and the package with the smalls was there for her. Here are the smalls I sent her. And yes, she like them!

Another blog reader, Linda, sent me two big boxes of fabric for making totes. I felt I needed to send her something - the postage to ship all that fabric to me was not cheap! I sent her a couple project bags and she was very happy! She was going away on a short trip and transferred her cross stitching into the bags for her trip.      Now my road trip. My girlfriend arrived and we headed to Sugarcreek, Ohio. We were going to have breakfast at Dutch Valley Restaurant, but there was a 35-minute wait. Mind you, it is a Friday morning at 9:30. We decided not to wait and headed to the bulk food store in Sugarcreek. I got some spices, cocoa powder, nuts, and other baking supplies. Here was what was in one of my two bags.

Next, we went to a fabric store down the block. They carry quilt fabric and all kinds of sewing stuff. I picked up three cones of quilting thread and two skeins of floss. I like this Signature quilting thread and the shop hasn't raised the price yet. This is good thread, and they only charge $10.75 for a 3000 yard cone! The floss is for a cross stitch project I need to get kitted up.

There aren't any restaurants in downtown Sugarcreek so we headed to Walnut Creek. There were people everywhere! We eventually found a place to park and started over to the one restaurant. We passed a couple ladies that told us the wait time was 75 minutes! Geeze! Forget that! We saw an antique place so we walked thru there. I found a couple things.

We were really getting hungry and Walnut Creek was such a madhouse, we left and headed to Chestnut Ridge Sewing Center outside Berlin so I could pick up my scissors that they had sharpened. The lady at the store gave us a couple suggestions about where we might get something to eat. We decided not to go to Berlin and just head back, because if Walnut Creek was busy Berlin had to be crazy too. We passed by both places the girl had suggested because they were both packed. We ended up heading back and went to the Mexican restaurant in Strasburg. There was no wait there so finally at 12:45 we got to sit down and get something to eat. I forgot to take a picture of my plate; the food is so good there and we had the nicest waiter. There is a thrift store in the same plaza, so we went to see if they had gotten any more picture frames. I had bought some there before for framing my cross stitch. I didn't find any frames, but I did get these cute salt and pepper shakers, and this cute acorn decoration all for $3.00. There were two of those acorns, so my friend bought the other one and now we have a memory of this trip.

After that we headed over to the quilt shop in Mineral City to see my friend who was at the quilt shop for a sew-in day. I did check out the clearance shelves and found a few pieces. Wendy, the store owner, always had good stuff on her clearance shelves. The fabric was $6.00 a yard then it was an extra 25% off! That hand fabric will make a great back for a Halloween quilt. I emptied the bolt and got 10.75 yards.

We hung out at the quilt shop for an hour and a half then headed back to my house. It was a 166 mile trip. My friend stayed for another couple hours then headed home. I was exhausted, but we had a great time.

Busy three days.

Let's start with Sunday and work our way back to Friday. I did get some quilting done on the log cabin quilt between two small sewing projects for my brother and laundry. I now have 32% of the quilting done or 23.7 square feet. I had to wind a bunch more bobbins - 26 I think - as I was down to one.

My brother called and said he was going to bring over the new table Uncle Frank made for me. So, I stopped everything I was doing to see if I could get the faux fur covers made for the bungee cords that will hold the guitars in place in the new road case my brother made. I had two done by the time he showed up and then got the other two done while he waited.

My brother brought with him the bass amp cover I had made.  The pocket got ripped.   It got rubbed up against something and tore the top layer. Out came the seam ripper and I had it fixed in a few minutes.  It is now good as new!

My brother switched out the two TV tray tables with Uncle Frank's new table. Now larger quilts will be supported better when I machine quilt.

After my brother left it was back to quilting, laundry, and hitting my goals for the day. I did get my 12 hours standing goal met.

Saturday I was so tried after the road trip on Friday I didn't get much done. Once I finally got enough energy, I decided to start sanding a table and trying out the new toy my friend gave me. The table was salvaged from a demolition project. I got most of the varnish off the top and the legs. It will take another sanding session of 2 or 3 hours and then I can start the finishing. The table look like it has white oak legs, and the top might be maple. Can you imagine just crushing this and throwing it in the landfill?

I charged up the battery and tried it out on cutting down the stems of a few Shasta Daisies. It worked great! It is lightweight, easy to use, and made quick work of cutting the stems. It was much faster than using hand clippers!  She also gave me four of these Gorilla bucket/totes and I filled one up with the debris.  The bucket/totes are lightweight and sturdy.  I can see using them for lots of jobs around the house including filling them with ice and drinks for a party!

Plugging away on the log cabin quilt

It is Friday at work for me today. I am taking tomorrow off and hanging out with a friend. Last night I got a bit more quilted. I am now 18.5% done with the quilting which is 14 square feet.

I don't have any big plans for the weekend. It looks like the weather is going to be nice so I may get some outside work done. We got some rain last night. The lighting and thunder woke me up a little before 11 p.m. My grass patch needed a drink so I will be interested in seeing how it is growing. I haven't looked at it in a few days. Have a great weekend!

Quilt progress and that's a cheeto!

I now have 16% of the log cabin quilt quilted. For you Swooze, that is 12.33 square feet.

Yesterday I saw a piece on CNN about a statue that is a tribute to Cheetos. I love it! It is 17' tall and just a bit too big for my yard, but oh I would love a smaller one!

I love Cheetos. In fact I love them so much in 2006 I made this wall hanging as my tribute to Cheetos. It hung in an exhibition at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. The theme for the show was orange you glad. The piece measures 30" x 38" and I use batiks for the front. I hand dyed the fabric for the back then cut a sponge in the shape of a cheeto and stamped those all over the back. Spots for Chester and there you go!
